Mr. Mario Lawrence Totaro

Mr. Mario Lawrence Totaro, age 92, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY with his loving family by his side. Born in Rome, NY on July 21, 1924, Mario was the son of the late Nicholas and Josephine (Boccassi) Totaro. Raised and educated in Rome, he was a graduate of Rome Free Academy/Class of 1942. He furthered his studies at Utica College of Syracuse University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He was proud to receive his degree and also the blessing of a son in the same year 1958. A veteran of the United States Navy, Mario honorably served his country from 1943-1946 during World War II. On September 4, 1950 he married the former Vincenza F. Zegarelli with whom he shared a 59 year union graced with love and devotion to each other. Mario’s occupation in the field of accounting allowed him and his family the opportunity to live in Jamaica in the West Indies from 1969-1974, an experience they will never forget. He was employed by Revere Copper & Brass, Inc. as an accountant for over 40 years, the position from which he retired. He was a member of the National Association for Accountants. At one time, he practiced his Catholic faith as a communicant of the Annunciation Church in Clark Mills. Mario is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Robert Beach of Utica, and Mary Ann and Mitchell Hawkins of New Hartford; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Lori Totaro of Whitesboro; his grandchildren, Bobby Beach, Becky Beach and fiance David Byrne, Jeffrey and Christine Beach; Sara and Tony Butch, Erica and Phil Schoff, Nicole and Devin Collver, Samantha Hawkins; and Gina Totaro, Lisa Totaro, and Sara Totaro; and his great-grandchildren, Emilia Beach, Anthony Butch, and Beckham Collver. He was happy to know that he was expecting a new great-granddaughter in June. He also leaves his brother, Arthur Totaro of Rome; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law, Thelma Zegarelli, Joan Totaro, and Norma Totaro. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister-in-law, James Totaro, Joseph and Hazel Totaro, and Robert Totaro; and his in-laws, Grace Totaro, and Nicholas Zegarelli. The family extends their appreciation to the staff of the Presbyterian Home for Central NY for the care and compassion they rendered to Mario during his stay. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-6:30 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Mario’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Chaplain Tom Lorenz officiating the ceremony. Honors will be conferred by the United States Navy. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
