Marie L. (Maggiore) Spoto

Mrs. Marie L. (Maggiore) Spoto, age 80, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2009 in the comfort and privacy of her home. Born in Utica on April 15, 1929, Marie was the daughter of the late Angelo and Libera (Pietrantuono) Maggiore. She was raised and educated locally. She was married to Alfonse T. Spoto who passed away on November 29, 1975. Marie worked as a waitress for 40 years at various establishments, and in 1972 was employed at the family-owned restaurant in Rome, “The Stockade Inn”. Marie worked very hard to raise her children and provide for their well-being. She was a loving mother and a strong woman who nurtured and protected her family. An excellent cook, she was noted for her savory sauce and an overabundance of food for the holidays, always catering to everyone’s needs. She was an enthusiastic reader, especially of the daily newspaper. Devoted to her Roman Catholic faith, she was a former parishioner of St. Agnes Church. Marie is survived by her children and their families, her daughter, Marielaina “Pinky” Goodlin of CA; her son, Alan T. Spoto; her daughter, Luanne Marie and John Talerico, Jr.; and her son, Richard S. Spoto, all of Utica; her grandchildren, Thomas M. Alster, Michelle M. Gonzales, and Tara L. and Mike Stephen, all of CA, Andrea M. and Frank Spina of Whitesboro, Jennifer and Alfredo D’Ambrogio of Liverpool and their mother, Sandra Spoto, of New Hartford; Philip A. Gulla, Jr., and Frank D. Gulla and fiancée Nicole, all of Utica; and William A. Roden of TN; and her many great-grandchildren. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Nellie Maggiore. She was predeceased by her brothers and sister-in-law, Thomas G. Maggiore, and Ben P. “Bengee” and Hazel E. Maggiore; and her companion, Kenny Rabideau. The family would like to thank Lincare, Inc., Dr. Ramzi Nassif of Central New York Cardiology, Dr. Limburg of Newport, NY, and the staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the care and compassion rendered to Marie. A special thank you to Santo, Bob and the entire staff of Garro's Pharmacy. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9-11 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Marie’s funeral service will commence at 12:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Roman Catholic Burial will be celebrated. "Mom - I Love you." "Yes, Rich - But I love you more."
