Mrs. Marie (Prestigiacomo) Punzi

UTICA/BROCKPORT – Mrs. Marie (Prestigiacomo) Punzi, age 94, was reunited with her husband in eternity when she passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Born in Frankfort, NY on August 7, 1930, Marie was the daughter of the late Costantino and Della (Jesullo) Prestigiacomo. Raised in the area, she attended T.R. Proctor High School. On September 15, 1951, Marie wed the love of her life, John J. Punzi. The two were inseparable for the nearly 37 years they spent together prior to John’s passing on August 15, 1988. At the age of 18, Marie began working at Malara’s Record Store, a position she enjoyed very much. Life then blessed her with being a mother, so she left the workforce and dedicated her time in rearing her children and keeping a well-run home. Later in life, she then entered retail sales, working at the Boston Store in Utica, and then Doyle Knower in New Hartford, from which she retired. Marie loved growing her African violets, playing Bingo, cooking, and baking – which she was quite good at. She was a fun-loving person and had a sparkling sense of humor. Above all, and most importantly, she adored her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. When she resided in Utica, she was a faithful member of Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Rosary Campus. Marie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Leslie Punzi; daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Jim McEvoy; cherished grandchildren, Christopher Punzi, Jonathan Punzi, MD, Justin McEvoy, DPT, and Corey McEvoy. She held close to her heart the memory of her siblings and their spouses who preceded her, Costantino J. and Lillian Prestigiacomo, Carl and Kay Prestigiacomo, Josephine and David Cozza, Ella and John DaPrano, and Lena and Stephen Garramone. She was additionally predeceased by her and in-laws, Louise and Henry F. Boyda, and Stephen A. and Jacqueline F. Punzi. She further leaves to cherish her memory many nieces and nephews and their families; and her second family, the McEvoys. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Elderwood at Lakeside in Brockport for the genuine care and comfort they gave to Marie, and the nurses and staff for truly going above and beyond in all they do. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Marie’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life, which will commence on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Rosary Campus, 1736 Burrstone Rd., New Hartford. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of Mass. Memorial contributions in Marie’s honor may be made to Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport by mail to Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport, 170 West Ave., Brockport, NY 14420, ATTN: Administrator Kimberly Klinetob, memorandum: Resident Council; envelopes will also be available at the service. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
