Mrs. Marie B. (Salvo) Giglio

Mrs. Marie B. (Salvo) Giglio, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on May 17, 1933, Marie was the daughter of the late Rosario and Margaret (DeTullio) Salvo. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On July 5, 1974 she married Alfred T. “Al” Giglio with whom she shared 23 years prior to his passing on June 21, 1998. During her working years, Marie was employed by the General Electric Company and later at Mele Manufacturing. Although she was hard-working, she had a strong desire to do right by her children and devote time to them. Her family oriented nature was enhanced when she became a grandmother, a role that brought her unsurpassed joy later in life. She also upheld a very close bond with her extended family. Friendly and outgoing, Marie would start up a conversation with anyone. She was selfless and compassionate about giving back kind deeds and words during her day-to-day life as reflected in her volunteer work with the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the ARC. During her spare time, she enjoyed playing Scrabble and befriending her neighbors in her community. For many years, Marie graciously set the altar for weekly Mass at the Country Club Courts where she resided. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Surviving are her children which include, Michele and Ray Fayet of Roswell, GA, Melissa Sheets, and Frank T. Giglio, both of Utica; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Fayet, Emma Grace Fayet, and Franchesca Marie Giglio who shared a special bond with her beloved Grandma. In addition Marie is survived by her sister, Josephine Carcone; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel A. Salvo, Sr., Rosario “Russ” and Yvonne Salvo, Paul R. and Cheryl Salvo, and John Salvo. Also left to remember her are her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and in-laws including John Bianco. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Anthony “Tony” and Mary Salvo; sisters and brothers-in-law, Fanny “Faye” Bianco, Katherine “Kaye” and Anthony Cannistra, Margaret “Bunny” and Victor Nole, Sr.; and in-laws, Benny Carcone, and Lamya Salvo. During Marie’s time of need her family found comfort from the physicians, nurses, and staff at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. In times of sorrow Marie appreciated privacy, and so her family will honor and respect those wishes as they bid their farewells in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday morning at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the mass. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
