Maria Louisa (Cranco) Rinaldi

Mrs. Maria Louisa (Cranco) Rinaldi, age 92, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home. Born on February 24, 1921 in the Province of Potenza situated in the beautiful Apennine Mountains in southern Italy, Maria was the daughter of the late Rocco and Rosa (Porporino) Cranco. She was raised and educated in Italy. On May 14, 1947 she married Rocco Rinaldi with whom she shared 59 years prior to his passing on March 23, 2007. Maria, like so many European emigrants who came to America in the early 20th century, worked as a seamstress at the Joseph & Feiss Textile Factory for many years before she retired. A loving and devoted matriarch, her family was the center of her life, especially her grandchildren. At home, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cooking Mediterranean cuisine infused with the flavor of her Italian heritage. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Maria is survived by her daughter-in-law, Doreen Rinaldi of Ilion. She cherished in her heart the memory of her son, Chris Rinaldi, who passed away on July 19, 2002. She also leaves her grandchildren, Michele Reid of Marcy, Sherry and Pat DeHart of Ilion, and Michael and Valerie Rinaldi of Frankfort; and her great-grandchildren, Cayley, Christopher, Aaron, Connor, Correy, Cristin, and Ryan; many relatives in Italy; and her dear friend, Congetta DiPierro and family. She was predeceased by several siblings in Italy. The family extends sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the St. Joseph Nursing Home for the kind care offered to Maria during her stay. The family will honor and commemorate Maria’s life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Maria’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday morning at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. in lieu of flowers; envelopes will be available at the service. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
