Margaret C. (Ferrera) Matrulli

Mrs. Margaret C. (Ferrera) Matrulli, age 91, formerly of Utica and currently of New Hartford, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2006 at the St. Luke’s Home. Born in Utica on March 12, 1915, Margaret was the daughter of the late Agostino and Antonia (Tagliafero) Ferrera. She was raised here and attended local schools. On February 6, 1937 in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church she married Manfred A. “Fritz” Matrulli with whom she shared a good and rewarding union of 63 years, one that was highlighted by the true and mutual devotion that was the cornerstone of their relationship and of their family life. Mrs. Matrulli was a conscientious homemaker who dedicated herself to her husband, to her children, and to her home. A loving woman, she inspired and guided her family with her special qualities of character, especially her affection, devotion, and humility. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing family meals, especially at holiday times. An accomplished seamstress, Margaret turned her needlework skills into a successful business venture which she ran from her home, creating custom slipcovers, curtains, and window treatments for a satisfied clientele. Her favorite leisure pastime was gardening: she enjoyed tending her flowers and appreciated the beauty of the blossoms that resulted from her care. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Mrs. Matrulli is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret Mardany of New Hartford, and Judith and Michael Cordo of Utica; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Ann Marie Matrulli of Utica; her grandchildren, Louis Mardany, Edward Mardany, both of New Hartford, Theresa and Robert Schachtler, Michael Cordo, all of Utica, Ann Margret and Steven Wagnblas of Bethesda MD, Maria and Steven Kopek of NJ, Frederick and Liseanne Matrulli, and Joseph and Kelly Matrulli, all of Charlotte, NC; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriella Cordo, Tyler Wagnblas, Kristen Wagnblas, Joseph Wagnblas, Jack Kopek, Benjamin Kopek, Samantha Kopek and Joseph Matrulli. Her survivors also include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Rose Conti, Judith “Jennie” Winkler, Mary and Joseph Giruzzi, and Eleanor and Emil Calde; a brother, John Ferrera; and her in-laws, Angeline Zangrilli, Louise Fiorito, and John and Albert Matrulli. The family offers its heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Clark East of the St. Luke’s Home. Special thanks to Margaret’s caregivers and friends, Donna Redmond, Philomena Marrotta, Nina Romanelli, and Diana Titus, all of whom provided “their Lady” with conscientious care and dedicated attention that was well above and beyond the call of duty. Visitation will be held this afternoon (Sunday) from 2-4 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Margaret’s name to the Arthritis Foundation or to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mrs. Matrulli’s funeral will commence on Monday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
