Margaret A. "Peggy" (Murphy) Guarno

Mrs. Margaret A. “Peggy” (Murphy) Guarno, age 72, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Heritage Healthcare Center with the support and love of her family. Born in Utica on March 21, 1937, Peggy was the daughter of the late Richard and Margaret (Scherer) Murphy. She was also blessed with the love and guidance of her stepmother, Reba. Raised and educated in Utica, Peggy was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy. On September 17, 1955 she married Daniel Guarno with whom she shared 23 years prior to his passing in 1978. As true companions in the journey of life, Peggy and Dan were a family-oriented couple blessed with wonderful years in their marriage. A woman who was admired for her hard work ethic, Peggy proudly was employed by the General Electric Company, and later held a position at ICL. She returned to General Electric where she worked at the French Rd. location, the position from which she retired. Peggy was a kind and giving woman, non-judgmental and ladylike. Always particular and precise in her manner, she was also meticulous and impeccable in keeping her home. Warm hearted and extremely generous, she was affectionate in her love, especially with her grandchildren. She was proud of the integrity and love that her children and grandchildren embraced in their lives. She enjoyed caring for her home, decorating in her own unique style, and gardening, all in keeping with her fastidious nature. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Susan A. Guido; and her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Judy Guarno, all of Utica. Always close to her heart was the memory of her son-in-law, Vincent L. Guido, who passed away in 1993. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Dana Leigh Guido; Daniel Guarno, and twins, Salvatore Guarno and Vincent Guarno; her sisters and brother-in-law, Patricia and Raymond Nelson of Utica, and Jacqueline Cooper of Chittenango. Survivors also include her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Peggy was grateful for the love and closeness she shared with Helen Guarno, Angie Guarno, and her special nieces and nephews, Rich, Jimmy, Janice, Helen, Marie, Michael, and Dennis, as well as her longtime friend, Marianne DiBrango. Her life was also enhanced through the extended family members of the Guido and Putrello families. The family extends thanks to the personnel at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Medical Radiation Center; Dr. Lawrence and his staff for encouraging Peggy; and the 6th floor staff at the Heritage Healthcare Center. All the wonderful care was so much appreciated. Visitation will be held Tuesday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Peggy’s funeral service will commence on Wednesday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
