Margaret A. (Brigano) Cardamone

Mrs. Margaret A. (Brigano) Cardamone, age 91, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the love and support of her family. Born in Herkimer, NY on April 13, 1917, Margaret was the daughter of the late Frank and Angelina (Pugliese) Brigano. She was raised and educated in Herkimer and later came to Utica with her family. On June 30, 1934 she married Samuel F. Cardamone who passed away on March 17, 2004. Margaret loved her husband with all her heart and devoted herself to him and her family during their 70 years of marriage. Generous and supportive by nature, she helped her brothers with the operation of Brigano Brothers Market on South Street, a family business where she spent some of the happiest years of her life. She was blessed with the ability to be readily available to people in her life, and she oversaw her family’s needs with a great degree of commitment; she knew how to love well. Her culinary talents were superb and memorable, and her crochet and knitting skills were masterful. She left many handmade treasures to her family and friends. She was an excellent shopper and enjoyed playing games of chance and the daily lottery. When her husband was well, they enjoyed bingo, roller skating, dancing, and socializing at the Utica Maennechor Hall and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church. Margaret is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Constance L. “Connie” Watkins of Utica and Arthur J. Henry of New Hartford, and Linda M. and Henry Weyer of Cicero, NY. Always close to her heart was the cherished memory of her son, Robert Ross Cardamone, who passed away on May 13, 1966. In addition, she leaves her daughter-in-law, Patricia Spatuzzi; her grandchildren, affectionately known to them as “Nan”: Christine and Patrick Donovan, Kimberly and Kenneth Daming, Robert and Diane Cardamone; Tracy and Andre Esposito, Daniel F. and Janeen Watkins, Samuel R. and Lisa Colasanti; Michele and Bob Brady, Chris and Sarah Weyer, and Timothy Weyer and fiancée Sarah LaMere; her 17 great-grandchildren, with the anticipation of an additional great-granddaughter expected in December. Survivors also include her brother and sister-in-law, Orlando “Lindy” and Lucy Brigano of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Margaret was also blessed with many dear and longtime friends. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph D. and Vita Brigano, Anthony F. and Martha A. Brigano; and her sister and brother-in-law, Rose J. and Ralph A. Martelli. The family is grateful to Dr. Scott S. Brehaut, the nurses and entire staff of the 4th floor of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, Fr. John Rose for his prayers and spiritual support, and Fr. Bob Kelly for his longtime friendship. Visitation will be held Sunday (today) from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Margaret’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
