Margaret (Asselta) Graniero

Mrs. Margaret T. (Asselta) Graniero, age 95, of New Hartford, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer with her family by her side. Margaret was born in Utica on August 3, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Vita Marie (Ungaro) Asselta. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy. On June 21, 1941 she married Beniamino "Bennie" Graniero with whom she shared her love and life during their 35 years of marriage. Her beloved Bennie died on September 25, 1976. For many years, Margaret used her food preparation skills as a cook at Proctor High School. Whether at work or at home, Margaret was gentle, loving, and caring by nature. She was devoted to her family and was guided by her faith. She was honored to be among the founding families of Mt. Carmel Church and was devoted to her parish and to praying the rosary daily. She was a creative cook, and brimmed with joy when family and friends enjoyed her tasty cuisine. Her hobbies included solving crossword puzzles, cooking and baking. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Margaret is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Louis Baskinger, and Vita Graniero, all of New Hartford; her sons and daughter-in-law, John and Theresa Graniero of New Hartford, and Gerard Graniero of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her grandchildren, Christine and David Bolte, Michael and Heather Graniero, and Jennifer and Corey Lake; and her great-grandchildren, Ben Graniero, Jessica Bolte, Joshua Bolte, and Jason Bolte. In addition, she leaves several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Rocco and Leona Asselta, and Anthony and Antoinette Asselta; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine Asselta, Pauline and Pasquale Pape, Isabelle Asselta, Mary Asselta, Anna and Elio Rossi, and Rose and Rocco Laria. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Valley Health Services in Herkimer for all the care and attention shown to Margaret and her family. Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 8:00-9:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Margaret’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday morning at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta and Rev. Joseph Salerno. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
