Marcus A. "Markie" Iannone

Mr. Marcus A. “Markie” Iannone, age 67, of Utica, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Marcus was born in Utica on November 27, 1944, the son of the late Tullio and Louise (Guerriero) Iannone. He was raised and educated locally. In 1962 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served stateside and was honorably discharged upon completion of his service. On April 8, 1965 he married the former Sandra Comito with whom he shared a complete give-and-take relationship; they looked toward each other as a source of comfort and security and shared over a 46 year union. Mark was a machinist by trade and over the years had been employed by Dairylea, Rome Cable, and Granny’s Kitchen. He had his own unique way of performing a job and he could fix anything – with WD-40, duct tape, and a Craftsman wrench – the job got done. A hard-working, multi-faceted man, he overcame many physical disabilities. Above all, he was a dad who was proud and protective of his family, devoted to his loved ones, and a person of his word. He had the love and support of his family which was the greatest joy in his life. There are some things that everyone should know about Mark: he was a NASCAR enthusiast and admirer of Greg Biffle who he had an opportunity to meet, and he was a die hard fan of the New Jersey Devils Hockey team. His favorite band was The Beach Boys. He skillfully baked and made many cakes and chocolate pusties for all their special family occasions. He was a member of the former St. Agnes Church. Marcus is survived by his wife, Sandy; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Tammy Iannone of Utica; his daughters and son-in-law, Sherry Iannone of N. Utica, and Rosann and Michael Grems of Frankfort; his cherished grandchildren, Sarah Shorey and Matthew Centolella; Christopher and Marcus “Markie” Iannone; and Crystal and Brian Menard; and he anticipated the arrival of his 1st great-grandchild. In addition, he leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, especially acknowledging Phyllis “Pudgie” Senger and remembering her late husband, Charlie; his in-laws, Robert and Pamela Comito of N. Utica, and Luann and George Murad of New Hartford. He was blessed with many longtime and special friends, gratefully acknowledging, Patti. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Nicholas and Rose Comito. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Lance Brownstein who went above and beyond their expectations; the caregivers at local hospitals; the Visiting Nurse Association, especially Stephanie, who affectionately cared for Mark with much dedication. Sandy also was proud of her family who cared for Mark with much love. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please refrain from floral offerings. Mark’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Msgr. Francis Willenburg officiating the ceremony.
