Mr. Luis DeJesus

UTICA – Mr. Luis DeJesus, age 75, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by the love of his family at the time of his passing. Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, on March 10, 1950, Luis was the son of the late Juan and Rita (Natal) DeJesus. Raised and educated in Puerto Rico, he relocated to the United States—specifically the Utica area—in 1978 with his mother and family, where heresided ever since. Luis was a man with a vibrant personality—full of energy and a joyful spirit. Known for his playful sense of humor, he delighted in little acts of mischief, like secretly slipping extra cash to his grandchildren. He cherished annual trips to Water Safari with his nephew Hector Rios and his wife Jennifer and their children, eagerly anticipating each visit. A natural handyman, Luis loved to tinker with things, often taking them apart and fixing them. He also had a deep passion for dancing to Spanish music. At one point, Luis dedicated time volunteering at JCTOD Outreach. A devout Catholic, his faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was an active member of Historic Old St. John’s Church. Luis is survived by his stepchildren, Antonio Rios, Melito Rios, Milagros Rios and Miguel Acevedo, Julio Rios, Jr., Carmen and Patrick Lindsay, Gladys Rios, Judy Rios Lugo and Ismael Lugo, Betty Rios, Betsy Murray, Gloria Rios Quiles, Isreal Rios, and Luis Rios; and his canine companion, Cesar. He fondly remembered his sisters and brothers who preceded him. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and many special friends, especially his late friend, Tom, who passed away on January 24, 2025. He was additionally predeceased by Gloria E. (Rodriguez) Rios, his beloved companion that he would do anything for; and his stepchildren, Elizabeth Pagan, and Rafael Rios. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Wynn Hospital for their dedicated care of Luis. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Luis’ funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
