Mrs. Lucy (Guidera) Guerino

Mrs. Lucy (Guidera) Guerino, age 94, of Utica, passed away on Christmas Eve Day, Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc. with the love and support of her family. Born in Utica on December 28, 1915, Lucy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Romeo) Guidera. She was raised and educated locally. On November 12, 1938 she married Alexander Guerino with whom she shared a blessed union of 52 years prior to his passing on December 14, 1990. Lucy and Alex were good companions, blessed with a family life that was both gratifying and inspirational. Lucy was a loving matriarch who tended to her home with prideful responsibility. She often told her children and grandchildren how much she loved them and how proud she was of them. Her heart belonged to Utica and she was content to be born, raised and spend her final days in the place which she knew as home. She lived on her own terms, independent and mentally alert. Lucy was an advocate for seniors and a proud member of the North Utica Senior Center, where she appreciated and embraced the friendships and conversations that took place at this ‘home away from home’. She made an impact on those that she engaged in discussion and people who became her friends. She enjoyed bingo, games of chance, and especially trips to Florida to visit her family. She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church. Lucy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Kathleen Guerino; and her daughter, JoAnn Tolmie all of Delray Beach, FL. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Carl. She will be remembered by her grandchildren, Alex F. Guerino, Lisa Leonard, and Joelle and Michael Rotay; and her 4 great-grandchildren, Kali Sweezey; Jocelyn, Mackenzie, and Jacob Rotay. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Leatha Guidera, Carmella Carleo, Marie Diab, and Marylou Guerino. Lucy was also blessed with many wonderful friendships during her lifetime especially acknowledging Liz Douglas. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and James Sardino, Rose and Leonard Borruso, Sr.; her brothers and sister-in-law, Thomas Guidera, George Guidera, Joseph Guidera, Jr., and Luciano “Lucky” and Rose Guidera; and her brothers-in-law, Joseph Guerino, Moses “Moe” Diab, and Frank Carleo. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of the Presbyterian Home/Birch Wing for the compassionate and excellent care shared with Lucy during her stay. A genuine note of thanks to Lucy’s niece, Joanne Suppa, and nephew, Joseph Guidera for the attention and love they offered especially in these most recent years. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10-12 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in lieu of flowers may make a donation to the North Utica Senior Center; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Lucy’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday at a time to be announced at St. Peter’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Committal prayers and entombment will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
