Lucy A. (Monaco) Amato

Mrs. Lucy A. (Monaco) Amato, age 89, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012. At the time of her passing at the St. Luke’s Home she knew the love, support and presence of her family. Lucy was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on March 25, 1923, the daughter of the late Anthony and Assunta (Claggese) Monaco. She was raised and educated in Brooklyn, NY. On June 26, 1943 she married Sebastian P. “Sal” Amato, and for nearly 45 years they remained true companions, committed and connected to each other. Her beloved Sal passed away on May 7, 1988 but her love for him remained with her until her passing. Lucy’s duties during her working days were dynamic, ranging from those of Meter Maid, to Crossing Guard, to a Cafeteria Clerk at the General Electric Company Broad Street location, to Head Cook at Central Kitchen for the Utica City School District. But first and foremost was her ability to be a caring mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law, forever proud of the accomplishments of her beloved family. Lucy was also a very spirited woman who honored her friendships and commitments. Everything she did in life she did with great purpose and resolve. She was meticulous in attire and masterful in the care of her home, earning the nickname of “Mrs. Clean”. She treasured her memorable family vacations, and would be amenable to do anything for children and grandchildren. In earlier and healthier years she enjoyed spending time with her “Golden Girls”, dining with them weekly and traveling, especially to Atlantic City. She was a very active member of the organization of Sons of Italy Lodge #2054, serving in any capacity she could. Lucy lived her Catholic faith and recited the rosary with much devotion. She attended services at St. Luke’s Home weekly. Lucy is survived by her son, Dominick Amato of Brewerton, NY and remembering the passing of her daughter-in-law, Christina Amato; her daughters and son-in-law, Beatrice Rocco of Tennessee, and Susan and Gary Hunt of N. Utica; her grandchildren, Michael Amato, Jessica Amato and Mannie Dingle; Dominick Carlo, Cabrina and Ray Brown; Andrea and Bernie Carcone, Matthew Imundo; and Joan and John Burress. She cherished in her heart the memory of her grandson, Ralph J. Imundo II who passed away on July 26, 2000. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Amanda; Anthony, and Christina; Aaron; Bernie, and Abrianna; and Lindsay; her sisters, Rita D’Amore, and Mary LoBianco; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, her in-laws of the Amato Family, and her longtime friend, Kay Putman. She was predeceased by her sister and brothers-in-law, Josie and Louie Ercola, Dominick D’Amore, and Angelo LoBianco. The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Arul Kannan, and the St. Luke’s Home, Clark West – the level of care was outstanding and wonderful, and not to be forgotten. In keeping with Lucy’s wishes, her family celebrated her life at a private gathering. Funeral services and entombment in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
