Mrs. Lucretia "Lu" (LoConte) Carcone

UTICA - Mrs. Lucretia “Lu” (LoConte) Carcone, age 99, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Sitrin Health Care Center just days before her 100th birthday. Born in Utica on May 18, 1918, Lucretia was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (DiCeglie) LoConte. Lu was a lifelong resident of Utica, and after her schooling, she helped with the care of the family household until she met her future husband, Benedict “Ben” Carcone. They were married on August 23, 1937 and shared an amazing 73 years together in a union of mutual care and deep respect. Ben passed away on March 22, 2011. Lu dedicated herself totally to her home and family. She possessed a natural maternal instinct, and one of the ways she showed her love was through her specially prepared meals. She was also a talented seamstress for her family. As a mother, she looked out for the safety and security of her kids, and her unconditional love for her family was defined by her gentle actions. Lu’s Catholic faith and values allowed her to always see the good in others. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Agnes Church, and with her deep faith, she enjoyed sharing conversations about religion and guiding others to seek comfort through it. Lucretia was generous and kind-hearted, and she was beautiful both inside and out. Lucretia is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Rosemary Kulpa, Carol and Terry Dowdall, Karen Rothfuss, and Donna Erkenbeck. Her son-in-law, Edward Kulpa, preceded her on March 14, 2017. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren, Michael Kulpa, Timothy and Denise Kulpa, Judith Kulpa, Jennifer Dowdall, Andrea and Jeff Sirianni, Garrett Erkenbeck, and Emily Erkenbeck and fiancé Paul; great-grandchildren, Travis, Cody, Sharese and Jacob Kulpa, Kristin Gahan-Testa, Jamie Gahan, Amanda Kulpa and fiancé Lorenzo Tesoriero, Angela Kulpa; and Jayden Sirianni; great-great-grandchildren, Adrianna and Antonio Tesoriero, and David Testa; and her brother, Frank J. LoConte. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Andrew and Gloria LoConte, and Agnes Mary LoConte; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mariano and Mary (D’Amanda) Carcone; and in-laws, Mario “John” and Carmella Carcone, Valentine “Val” and David Conti, Rose M. and William V. Monopoli Sr., and Anthony P. and Ann Carcone. The family wishes to thank the outstanding nurses and staff of the Sitrin Health Care Center/Magnolia House for the compassionate care they provided for Lu. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lucretia’s funeral service and Celebration of life which will commence on Wednesday morning at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those wishing to do so may make a donation to a charity of choice in Lu’s honor. “Did you eat?”
