Mrs. Lucille T. (Barbato) Maneen

UTICA – Mrs. Lucille T. (Barbato) Maneen, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Lucille was born on August 1, 1929 to the late Alfred E. and Carmella T. (Nicotera) Barbato. As a young girl, her family relocated to Utica, from Cleveland, Ohio, and she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On September 1, 1950, Lucille married the love of her life, Peter Maneen. They shared a beautiful, loving, and dedicated 36 years together until his passing on December 31, 1986. At one time, Lucille held employment as a supervisor with Bradlees Department Store, along with various other retailers throughout the years including A.C. Moore, from which she retired. Lucille was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was passionate and focused on the needs of her family. She was very proud of the home that she provided for her family and was an incredibly gracious host. She was recalled as the happiest when it came to hosting her loved ones and feeding them her Italian delicacies. Being around the energy of her grandkids and great-grandkids when they participated in arts and crafts together, gave her the greatest joy! She was the definition of a loving matriarch. Lucille enjoyed exercising her mind by doing puzzles and knitting, as well as arts and crafts. She was religious and devoted to her Catholic faith. Lucille is survived by her children and their loves, Teresa Shepard and Phillip “Phil” Graziano, Elizabeth “Betty” and Robert “Bob” Wadman, Sandra “Sam” and John Francis, Peter and Judith “Judy” Maneen, Stephen “Steve” and Dorothy “Dot” Maneen, Richard “Rick” and Celeste Maneen, and Brian and Julie Maneen. Lucille will live on in the hearts of her 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred E. Jr. and Gloria A. Barbato, and Anthony J. and Linda A. Barbato. She remembered fondly her brother, John A. Barbato and her son-in-law, William H. “Bill” Shepard, who preceded her. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Jane L. Maneen. Lucille was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Elizabeth Maneen, her brother-in-law, Salvatore P. “Sam” Maneen; her best friend, Dorothy M. Julian. Lucille also had a very special friendship with the late Beverly Sukackas. Lucille’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the physicians and staff at the Monticello Household of the Masonic Care Community of NY for their deep care and compassion. During Lucille’s stay there she was blessed to make several new friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lucille’s Memorial Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
