Lucia "Lucy" (Giorgi) Ruggiero

Lucia Dorthea (Giorgi) Ruggiero of Capitola, California and longtime Utica resident, passed away peacefully on April 17th at 12:05 am, with her family by her side. She was a remarkable woman, very fair of face, feisty and quick witted. She made a strong impression on everyone she met. Her fierce love for her family was the centerpiece of her life. Lucy was a strong and loving matriarch. She is survived by her husband Anthony who she married on October 2, 1954. They shared 55 years of joy and passion. Their marriage was sometimes tempestuous but always loving. Together they raised and educated four beautiful children: Kathyrn Ruggiero of Oakland, California, Nanette Ruggiero of Santa Cruz, California, Andrea Ruggiero Campbell of Waikoloa Hawaii, and Steven Ruggiero of Los Altos, California. All have degrees or advanced degrees. Education was a priority for Lucy and she pushed and encouraged her children to succeed. She had three dearly loved grandchildren who she spoiled and adored. Matthew Campbell, 14, Jonathan Ruggiero 12, and Amanda Ruggiero 7. She leaves behind many loved ones: Marcia Roberts Ruggiero, Bill Campbell, Dennis and Aza Giorgi, Maria and David Abdoo, Michael and Francis Coluzza, Heidi Fonner, Jeff and Sophia Vallese, Debbie and Collin Hill, Mary Teresa Bostic and many dear and wonderful friends. She is pre-deceased by her parents Mary Vendetti and Libro Giorgi; her brothers, Amedio and Angelo Giorgi; her sisters-in-law, Angeline and Antoinette Giorgi; her beloved sister-in-law Vinnie Coluzza; her brother-in-law, John Coluzza; and her niece, Lauretta Coluzza Vallese. Lucy had an unbounded generosity; small gifts and recognitions flowed from her almost daily to loved ones and strangers alike. Her love of children was legendary. Not one child crossed her path that wasn’t celebrated. Lucy was a fashionista, she always had an impeccable sense of style and glamour. She owned and operated a unique clothing boutique “The Loft” in Clinton NY for 10 years. She was a gourmet cook and nurtured all with her culinary talents. She had a flair for interior design and loved to knit and embroider. Her enthusiasm and sense of fun was contagious. She filled our hearts and always reminded us to laugh. Her light remains, and she will be loved and cherished always. Visitation will be held Thursday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Lucy’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. A committal service will follow with interment at St. Agnes Cemetery.
