Louise M. "Lu" Abiusi

WEST UTICA - Louise M. “Lu” Abiusi, age 61, passed away most unexpectedly on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital with those she loved most in her heart. Born in Utica on December 10, 1957, Louise was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lottie (Stawiasz) Abiusi. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Utica Free Academy/Class of 1975. For the past 32 years, Louise shared her life with her love, Bill Ostrander. They deeply cared for one another and were genuinely concerned with each other’s needs. Lu was employed by Whitney Janitorial Enterprises, Inc. rendering her cleaning service at the Travelers Building. Lu was selfless in her actions and was always available to help others in need. She had a quiet soul, and others appreciated her good nature. Her favorite pastime was floral gardening, and she enjoyed walks in the neighborhood. A steadfast NY Yankees fan, Lu treasured any gift that was given to her with a NY Yankees logo on it, and she watched every televised game of every season. You would often hear her rooting for the Pinstripes and yelling at the television over a bad call. One of Lu’s special memories was traveling to New York City with her family to take in a game at Yankee Stadium. It was a highlight of her life. She was looking forward to a trip to Cooperstown this summer to see the Induction Ceremony of Mariano Rivera into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Lu loved horror movies and haunted house stories, and she enjoyed the thrills and chills. Louise is survived by her fiancé, Bill and his children, William, Jason, and David Ostrander; their grandchildren who she loved with all her heart, including Madison, Ethan, Kevin, Allison, Hailey, and Gabriella; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Philip and Shirley Abiusi, and Andy and Bridget Abiusi. She also leaves her nieces and nephews, Derek and Sara Abiusi, and Amy Abiusi; Jennifer and Roman Dybacz, Heather and Matthew Ellis, and Tiffany and Danny Breckenridge; several great-nieces and great-nephews, including Vincenzo, Sammy and Anna, and Ashlynn; cousins, mother-in-law, Charleen Capron; and in-laws, with special mention of Tracy and Herbert Iseneker. Lu was blessed with many friends, especially remembering Carol and Tom Wiegal, and Patricia Meyers, whose friendships she truly appreciated. The family is grateful to Dr. Ashok Patel who was most attentive to Louise’s needs; and the doctors, nurses, and staff at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for their kindness and compassion. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Louise’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Pastor David Ossenfort officiating the ceremony. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
