Dr. Louis M. Haddad

NEW HARTFORD – Dr. Louis M. Haddad, age 89, of New Hartford, formerly of Utica, was peacefully reunited with his wife and daughter on January 23, 2019 when he passed away at MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of his family. Louis was born in Utica on May 11, 1929 and was the son of the late Michael and Sophie (Ayoub) Haddad. He was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1947 and continued his undergraduate education at Utica College of Syracuse University. He went on to pursue his post-graduate studies at St. Louis University School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. A veteran of the US Air Force, he served his country as a dentist and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. While in the service, he was stationed in London, England where he met his future bride, Gloria, with whom he enjoyed 40 years of marriage until her passing in February 1999. Louis opened his first dental practice on Elm Street in Utica. He later moved his office to Genesee Street where he continued his practice with his late daughter, Michelle E. Haddad, DDS. Although he retired from private practice in 1999, he continued his dental career part time at Sitrin Health Care Center in New Hartford, retiring from that position in 2010. During his younger years, Louis greatly enjoyed activities like volleyball, tennis, bowling, and playing Pinochle and Pitch. He was fiercely competitive but also adeptly skilled in almost all things he endeavored. He was a bright, loving husband, father, and caring friend. He was an avid sports fan and particularly loved watching Syracuse Basketball and his beloved NY Yankees as well as attending his grandchildren’s sporting events whenever possible. Louis was a strong believer in giving back to his community and in assisting others when he could. To this end, he was an active participant with the Oneida-Herkimer County Dental Society, including a role as President from 1975-76, an avid supporter of the Utica College Alumni Association, including establishing endowed Scholarship Funds to benefit future students, a supporter of the Mohawk Valley Health System Dental Residency program, a mentor to numerous young dentists guiding them in starting their own private practices, and a devoted follower of his faith and church. He is survived by his children, Karen Chen and her husband, Nelson, and Michael Haddad and his daughter-in-law, Amy Haddad. He also leaves his grandchildren, Jillian Chen and her wife Jessie, Nicholas Chen; and Bailee Haddad; his great-grandchild, Lennox Chen; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gloria Haddad; his daughter, Michelle E. Haddad, DDS; brother and sister-in-law, Sal and Theresa Haddad; sister and brother-in-law, Sadie and Frank Eassa; and nephew Neil Eassa. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00-7:00 at St. George’s Orthodox Church, 350 Higby Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:30 at St. George’s Orthodox Church offered by Rev. Fr. Nikolai Meyers. A private burial will take place immediately following the Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, his family requests contributions be made to the Utica College, Dr. Louis and Gloria Haddad Scholarship Fund.
