Mrs. Lois E. (Darling) Young

WEST FRANKFORT/UTICA - Mrs. Lois E. (Darling) Young went to be with the Lord when she passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Masonic Care Community of NY, less than a month shy of her 100th birthday. She was born at the family farm on Welsh Bush Road in West Frankfort, the youngest of five daughters of the late Ernest E. and Addie Jean (Sutliff) Darling. Her Elementary schooling was completed at West Frankfort and she graduated from Utica Free Academy, later training as a Laboratory Technician. She worked as a Lab Technician until her marriage to Leland K. “Lee” Young on January 16, 1943. Lois and Lee shared a loving union of more than 64 years prior to Lee’s passing on February 2, 2007. After her children were in school, Lois worked at General Electric at their numerous locations until her retirement. She loved time spent at camp in Forestport and traveling throughout upstate New York with her husband. She was active in the West Frankfort and Asbury Methodist Churches. Hers was a life of service to her family, her church, and her community. Lois is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Leland K. “Lee” Jr. and Carol Young, Philip D. Young and David M. and Mary Beth Young; her grandchildren, Michael D. and Aguinis Young, Matthew Young, Melissa Young and husband Jerome LaLonde, and Jonathan Young; and her great-grandchildren, Micah Young and Gabriella Young. She also leaves her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her four sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and George Henry and her second husband Claude Woodward, Florence and Oscar Mulford, Hazel and Chester “Chick” Austin, and Mildred and John “Gil” Ackley; and her in-laws, Norma and Ted Littler and her second husband, “Hutch” Hutchins, and Althea and Harold Borden; as well as her niece Dorothy Ritter; and nephew William Littler. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Masonic Care Community, especially Lois’ caregivers of the Erie Household who treated her as if she were their own family; and Dr. Guy Wilcox and Dr. Gordon Fung, fine physicians who provided Lois with competent, compassionate care. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Lois’ funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday evening at 6:00 immediately upon conclusion of visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings and consider a donation to the Masonic Care Community of NY; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Interment will take place in West Schuyler Cemetery at the convenience of the family. “I WILL CLING TO THE OLD RUGGED CROSS, AND EXCHANGE IT ONE DAY FOR A CROWN”.
