Linda (DiMambro) Roberta

Mrs. Linda (DiMambro) Roberta, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the love and support of her family. Born in Utica on February 14, 1921, Linda was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucy (Damiano) DiMambro. She was raised and educated locally graduating from Utica Free Academy. She furthered her education at the University of Buffalo where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree and then pursued graduate courses at Utica College earning her Master of Arts Degree in Education. On February 5, 1947 she wed John A. Roberta; a truly devoted and compatible couple, they celebrated 64 years of marriage graced with mutual respect and love. Linda began her teaching career in the Elizabethtown Central School District in the Adirondacks. She subsequently taught night school English classes to immigrant students, leading to her next teaching assignment at the Christopher Columbus Elementary School in the Utica City School District where she taught 6th grade for 25 years. Shaping the minds of the youth to make the world a better place was very gratifying and she was proud of her chosen profession. For Linda, her devotion to her parents and the blending of motherhood, career, love for her husband, and the blessing of her granddaughter seemed to be the bright spots and inspiration of her life. She was a proud woman, fastidious with her home and her appearance. She was blessed with many talents and performed them well. She was an excellent seamstress, an avid reader, and always kept informed of current events. She was a health conscious person prior to it being in vogue. At one time they were active members of the Sons of Italy, and the Moose Lodges, where she and her husband had many memorable Friday and Saturday evenings where they embraced the art and joy of dancing with one another. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Linda is survived by her husband, John; her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn R. and Kevin Blaney of Utica; her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Katherine Roberta of Rush, NY; her granddaughter, Janene Sansone-Tirado and her husband Phil of New Hartford; and her great-grandchildren, twins Alena Lucinda and Alex Michael John. She also leaves her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. During her life, she was blessed with many dear friendships and wonderful co-workers. The family extends special thanks to Carrie Schoen who was looked upon as a granddaughter for the love and respect she showed to Linda in facilitating her care; the Compassionate Elder Care personnel who assisted Linda on a daily basis; and the staff of Brookdale Senior Living for their kindness. In keeping with Linda’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
