Linda A. "Aya" Filippelli

NORTH UTICA - Linda A. “Aya” Filippelli, age 76, went home to the Lord with her beloved Judy embracing her last moments with great love on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Born in Utica on January 16, 1947, Linda was the daughter of the late Frank J., Sr. and Josephine B. Filippelli. Linda received her education at local schools, and was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. For over 50 years, she shared in a committed relationship with Judy Talerico. She was known for her caring nature and sensitivity to the needs of others. Her sense of humor was very witty, and she had a wide circle of friends. She dedicated her career to the former St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she first worked in the ICU unit. She then accepted a position as a switchboard operator where she had been the “focus” of guidance and hospitality. Linda was sassy, but highly respected for her dedication to her work. Linda enjoyed playing bingo at local halls and cherished moments with Judy, shopping at the Olde Kountry Market, and summers spent at Hinckley Lake, savoring the beautiful scenery. Christmas Eve was a special time for Linda when she prepared meals and gathered with family. She believed in the Lord and relied upon Him in her times of need. She is survived by her significant other, Judy Talerico, as well as their feline, “Stellah Mae,” whom they rescued and she was the queen of their house; her siblings, Frank J. Filippelli, Jr., and Jeanette R. Sardina (and her late husband, Joseph “Butch” Sardina); nieces and nephews, Saundra Macri, Joseph Sardina, Jr., Santo and Sue Sardina, Frank and Renae Sardina, great-nieces and great-nephews, Kristy, Traci, and Riely; Thomas, and Adam; and cousins of the Filippelli and Chandler families, too numerous to mention; Judy’s nieces and boys, Chelesea, and Ashley, as well as their mother Regina; great-nieces Ashley, Carmella, and Isabella; in-laws, Kevin Talerico, and James “Jamie” and Lori (Burr) Talerico; special friends, Virginia Landesman, very best bingo buddies Alison, Sandy, Ethel, and Marlene. She was preceded by her aunt and uncles, John Filippelli, Sam Filippelli, Jerry Filippelli, and Rose Chandler; and Judy’s parents Gerald A. “Mr. T,” Jr. and Ellen (Brown) Talerico. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the second floor staff of The Grand Rehab and Nursing at Mohawk Valley in Ilion with special mention of caregivers Crystal RN, Brianna, Taylor, and Lexie. They were respectful, attentive, and loving in their care of Linda. Dr. Amy Gorczynski, was her personal physician, who provided outstanding commitment to Linda’s care, for which her efforts will always be held dear. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The family kindly requests that flowers be omitted. A prayer service will be held at the conclusion of visitation.
