Mr. Leroy B. Jackson

Mr. Leroy B. Jackson, age 59, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Utica on September 8, 1956, Leroy was the son of Elnora Jackson and the late Leroy Jackson. He was also blessed with the love and guidance of his step-father, Chester Ivory. Raised and educated in Utica, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. He later furthered his education by attending M.V.C.C. A proud veteran, Leroy honorably served his country in the United States Navy. At one time, Leroy shared in a relationship with Angelina Cooper; from that relationship came the blessing of a son. Leroy worked for the Cosmopolitan Center in the Maintenance Department for many years. He was lastly employed with Walmart in both Utica and Florida. Leroy was a devoted family man, and he loved his grandbabies so much. He was very giving and generous with his time and was always accessible to offer a loving and helping hand. Leroy worshipped the Lord at the Pentecostal House of Prayer. Leroy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Denise Jackson of Utica; his grandchildren, Mikal Jackson, Rahnelle Jackson, and Jamel Jackson; and his mother Elnora Jackson Ivory. He will also be remembered by his sisters and brother-in-law, Starlyne Jackson, and Carrie Carter, both of Utica, Keola Carter of Florida, Charlene and Bob Campbell of Oneida, Lorraine Burke of Kingston, NY, and Constantine Johnson of Florida; his brothers, Levon Jackson of Utica, and twins, Kelvin Johnson and Keith Johnson. His extended family includes a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and many special friends. The family extends their thanks to the staff of the St. Luke’s Home, Clark North unit for the care and compassion rendered to Leroy during his stay. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-3 at the House of God Church, 1304 Genesee Street. Leroy's Home Going Celebration will commence at 3:00 at the church upon conclusion of visitation. Military Honors will be conferred by the United States Navy. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
