Leonila (Sokolowski) Kallaur

Mrs. Leonila (Sokolowski) Kallaur, age 81, of Utica, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2007, at the Eden Park Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Poland on June 25, 1925, Leonila was the daughter of the late Anatol and Olga (Krepiec) Sokolowski. She was raised and educated in Poland. On January 23, 1944 in Poland, she married Leonid Kallaur. They shared 46 years of love and commitment to one another until Leonid’s passing on July 10, 1991. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, her life revolved around her family. She was a cordial woman who made everyone feel welcome at her home. During her spare time she enjoyed knitting. She was blessed with a compassionate soul and a fervent religious faith. She was a member of the Sisterhood of Blessed Saint Xenia, and a parishioner of St. John of Kronstadt Church. Leonila is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Ronald DeBernardis of New Hartford; her sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Gail Kallaur of Guilford, CT, Leonard and Barbara Kallaur of Whitesboro, Rev. George and Tatiana Kallaur of Brooklyn, and Peter and Michelle Kallaur of Utica; her grandchildren, Andrei, Sonia, Steven, Tatiana, Alexander, Eugene, Sergei, John, Larissa, Matthew, Melanie, Natalie, Michael; and her 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, especially acknowledging her cousin, Nina Pavlow. She also leaves all her friends and caretakers at Eden Park, with special mention of Paul and Martha Chopchic. She was predeceased by her son, Igor Kallaur, her sister, Theresa (Taisia) Sokolowski, and her brother, George Sokolowski. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Eden Park Healthcare Center, Dr. Roger Breslow, and the nurses and staff of 3E of the Allen Calder Wing of Faxton-St. Luke’s Hospital for their professional dedication to Leonila. Funeral services will commence on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at St. John of Kronstadt Church, 1009 Conkling Ave., Utica. The family will receive visitors immediately upon the conclusion of the funeral service on Sunday. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Leonila’s honor to the Eden Park Healthcare Center or the St. John of Kronstadt Fund; envelopes will be available at the service. Burial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday from the church and conclude with interment at the Holy Trinity Monastery Cemetery in Jordanville.
