Mrs. Lena G. (Guzzetti) Comstock

Mrs. Lena G. (Guzzetti) Comstock, age 85, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 in the comfort and dignity of her home. Born in Utica on April 4, 1928, Lena was the daughter of the late Peter and Maria (Pitera) Guzzetti. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On June 1, 1984 she married James P. Comstock with whom she shared 23 years until his passing on April 22, 2008. A dedicated and precise worker, Lena held a position as secretary to Frank Doolen while he served as US Marshall. An inspiring and nurturing woman, Lena was loved and appreciated by her family, and she was especially fond of her nieces and nephews and their families. Her loved ones will recall her generosity and the happiness she found in giving to those in need. Twice a week Lena shared her time with the residents of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc. Holiday gatherings brought much joy to her as she was able to share her time with her cherished family at their respective homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter celebrations. During her high school years Lena formed a bond with her sorority sisters which she maintained until her last days. Lena’s Catholic faith was central to her life, and as a devout believer she found comfort and strength in attending daily Mass at her parish, The Catholic Community of Whitesboro at St. Paul’s Church. Lena is survived by her nieces and nephews who she lovingly cherished as her own, Andrew and Eileen Guzzetti, Glenn and Karin Guzzetti, Dr. Peter and Lorraine Guzzetti, Esther and John Magee and their daughter Hillary Goodman and their son Mark Magee, Kay Prestigiacomo and her daughter Donna Gigliotti, Janet Leo and her daughter Renee; her great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Her extended family includes James D. and JoAnne Comstock, Gary and Kathy Comstock, and Brad Comstock. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Joseph Leo; and her brother and sister-in-law, Andrew J., Sr. and Clementine Guzzetti; and her sister-in-law June C. Iannone. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lena’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning at 10:00 at The Catholic Community of Whitesboro at St. Paul’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Thomas Durant. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions may be considered to The Catholic Community of Whitesboro at St. Paul’s Church or the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc.; envelopes will be available at the service. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of mass. Entombment will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
