Kevin B. FitzGerald

ROME – Mr. Kevin B. FitzGerald, age 61, went home to Heaven and was lovingly greeted by his mother who had been waiting for him, on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Kevin was born in the Bronx, NY, on October 3, 1960, to the late Geoffrey FitzGerald and Catherine (Corry) FitzGerald-Milito. A man who stood out for his sense of humor, Kevin could boast a happy life experience. He was affectionately known by his housemates as the “King,” and was able to reveal his sweet personality even when expressing his dislikes, which he always did appropriately. He was an incredible young man with a positive attitude. Kevin loved Coke Classic, McDonald’s hamburgers and fries, and ice cream—if he had chocolate or vanilla, he was good to go. His Irish heritage also invited him to always enjoy mashed potatoes. A Batman fan, his room was adorned to reflect this, though one might find the occasional SpongeBob or Spiderman décor thrown in. He was a special person, loved by his family and by all those blessed to be in his life. Kevin had a memorable laugh and joy in his soul. The staff and housemates who witnessed Kevin’s life saw how he lived it with wonder. He will never be forgotten, for he left his mark on this life time, having lived the best life he could with his medical conditions. Kevin was of the Catholic faith. Kevin is survived by his brothers, Geoffrey and his wife, Denise FitzGerald; and John T. FitzGerald. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Sugrue. Kevin leaves behind his niece, Emily FitzGerald, and his nephews, Aidan FitzGerald; and Scott, and Christopher Sugrue. Kevin was surrounded by his housemates and staff at Delta Acres (DDSO), who were truly his additional family. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Loretta Reed, the director of the house at Delta Acres; she was like a second mother to Kevin. His eyes would light up when he saw her and Kevin knew of her love for him. The family is grateful for her being such a remarkable lady. The staff at Delta, who were outstanding, especially in recent times. Special thanks are also given to Brianna, who was like a sister to Kevin and watched over him with such tender affection. The entire staff at DDSO have been so welcoming and caring during life with Kevin. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Kevin’s Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s/St. Peter’s Parish, 200 N. James St., Rome, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to honor Kevin’s life to the Epilepsy Foundation online at www.epilspesy.com; envelopes will also be available at the service. He will be laid to rest alongside his father in Old St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, NY at the convenience of the family.
