Kenneth A. "Ken" Stathes Jr.

Mr. Kenneth A. “Ken” Stathes, Jr., age 72, of New Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the love and support of his family by his side. Born in Utica on May 8, 1940, Ken was the son of the late Kenneth, Sr. and Lee (DeCarlo) Stathes. Raised and educated locally, he attended Utica Free Academy. Ken worked as a Line Supervisor for the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation for many years. An all-around perfectionist, Ken possessed a wide range of knowledge which transferred to his meticulous work as a handyman and craftsman. He enjoyed woodworking, masonry, and tree work. Ken had a great sense of humor and enjoyed living life to its fullest. Ken is survived by his loving companion of 23 years, Marie LaTour; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Delane Stathes of SC; daughter, Debbie Yager of N. Utica; and son Gregg Stathes of GA; grandchildren, Shawn, Erica, and Michelle Yager; Taylor Stathes, Dustin Smith, and Lauren Stathes. He also leaves his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Jo Stathes of Whitesboro, NY, Rick and Marie Stathes of Pittsford, NY, and Marie’s children Kathleen Portelli, and Joseph and Danielle Portelli of VA; many nieces and nephews including Michael and Hedy Stathes, Joe and Lynn Latella, Gary and Becky Jones, and Mike and Kristy Garcia; great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws Charlene and Jim Higgins of Oneonta, and Jim Lull of Gilbertsville. He was predeceased by Marie’s sister Sis Lull. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Edwards Ambulance Service and the New Hartford Police Department for their quick response and the Faxton-St. Luke’s Health Care Center Emergency Department for their professional efforts. The family will honor and commemorate Ken’s life in a memorial gathering which will be held on Saturday afternoon from 1-2 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Ken’s memorial service will take place on Saturday at 2:00 at the funeral home immediately upon the conclusion of the gathering.
