Kemmela Renee "Kim" Lewis

SYRACUSE/UTICA – Kemmela Renee “Kim” Lewis, age 54, went home to be with the Lord when she passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, after a courageous two and a half year battle with brain and lung cancer. At the time of her passing, her loving family was by her side. Born in Pompano Beach, FL on June 28, 1969, Kemmela was the daughter of the late Eddie Lewis and Betty Jean Lewis. In 1972, she relocated with her family to Central NY where she was educated, attending John F. Kennedy High School. At one time, Kemmela shared in a relationship with Jonathan Jackson and from their time together came the blessing of five children. She later found companionship with Sammy Caswell which blessed them with two children. More recently, she shared love with Steven Anderson. Kemmela once held employment as a cashier with TOPS and Save A Lot grocery stores. Kemmela enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to gather for a good game of cards, especially Spades or Pitty Pat. Her main focus in life was her family, she selflessly devoted her energies to raising her children and being a caregiver to her mother. Her life revolved around her loved ones and ensuring all their needs were met. She was most content when she was surrounded by her loving family, especially her grandchildren and her good friends. Kemmela found joy in going out dancing and never missed attending a good dance party! She especially enjoyed time spent with her brother, Ulysses, and engaging in family cookouts. Kemmela is survived by her daughters, Deshauna Jackson, and Kristina Davis; sons and daughter-in-law, Jonathan Lewis, Akeem and Amanda Lewis, Quondale Jackson, Tyreese Lewis, and Tommie Davis; grandchildren, Xaviana, Jesen, Jaheim, Jnaii, Jádir, JáRah, Robert, Akeem, Jr., Jason, Chase, Chyna, Everley, Demetrius, Jaden, Ariana, Tommie, Jr., Ah-morae, Zyanna, Xavier, Amiracle, Quondale, Jr., Tiana, Quamir, and the late Ky-ree Lewis; and her brother, Ulysses Lewis, Sr. She fondly remembered her brother, Larry Lewis, who preceded her. Also left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews, Justin Hymes, Denisha Ruffin, Ulysses Lewis, Jr., Casandra Ruffin, Gabrielle Martinez, Danielle Martinez, Shanequa Lewis, Ashley Pierce, and the late Michelle Leggett-Lewis; great-nieces, great-nephews; uncle, Robert Lewis; aunt, Lola Mae “Sister Gayle” Chairman; cousins, especially acknowledging Shawanda, Benjamin, Latanya (Rob), Letitia (Blossom), Tyrone “Moonie,” Tyrone, Naqun, Benjamin, Ricardo, Tashana, and Tirus Freeman who gave Kemmela and her cousins Lisa Woods, and Velma Chairman the nickname “the Snoop Sisters”; and many friends, especially Wilhelmina Brown, Patricia Brown, Roger Patterson, Joey Spratt, Art Carther, Rachel Archie, Loretta Ruffin, Brenda Rodriguez, Geneva Carr, Jean Martinez, Gloria Weathers, Tarmeeka Heath, Roxanne Kimball, and the late Evon Hymes. The family would also like to acknowledge their Smith, Freeman-Woods, Williams, Whipper, and Lewis families. Kemmela was predeceased by her uncle and aunts, James Lewis, Jr., Mary Lee “Minnie” Chairman, Lela Mae Brown, and Lillian “Loretta” Lewis. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Upstate Cancer Center in Syracuse for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Kemmela’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
