Kathleen (Slattery) Tyrrell

Kathleen Slattery Tyrrell, age 64, of 410 Blandina Street, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Kathleen was born on May 12, 1947 the oldest child of Lawrence M. Slattery, Jr. and Adele (Stuebner) Slattery in Lakewood NJ, received her early education in NJ but learned most of what she knew from life in Readers Digest. Kathy, along with her children moved from Browns Mills, NJ to Utica in March of 1970. She was a bartender who enjoyed working with the public for over 20 years. She befriended many people over the years and always providing a shoulder to lean on or an opportunity to listen or counsel with compassion. She has always been her 7 childrens best friend. We were the loves of her life. Each one of us was special and unique to her in our own way. She was predeceased by her beloved father and her mother, and cherished sister Joyce Slattery. She is survived by her beloved children, grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Marlene and children Michael, Syreeta and William, George of Utica; Denise and son Cody of Utica; Cheryl and her children, Jilana, C.J. and Nicholas of TN; Lanette and Dennis and their children, Diamond and Tiana of VA; Rocky and his children, Joey, Joshua, and Isabella of Utica; Nelson Jr. and Missy, and their children, Madison and Jahari of Utica; Andrew “Drip”; and her companion of many years, William Peace; brother, Tommy Slattery; loving godson, William Watkins; and her best friend, Thelma Carter. Kathy was an excellent writer and a community mother. She had an edgy and quick witted sense of humor. Kathy would like to thank everyone who was dear to her for helping her to live and enjoy life. Especially our Lord, Dr. Dasai and Dr. Sidker, and their staffs, St. E’s and St. Luke’s. Also Dr. Sam Gooldy who helped her through major medical crisis’ – except of course, this one. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 11-1 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Kathleen’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will be held on Monday morning at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. John Buehler. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
