Mrs. Kathleen E. "Kathy" (Holmes) Suppa

Mrs. Kathleen E. “Kathy” (Holmes) Suppa, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 7, 2016, joining her parents Charles and Mary (Bailey) Holmes, her beloved second dad, Leo Weibel, and her brother Larry Holmes in Heaven. Kathy was born in Utica on July 1, 1958 and was a member of the class of 1976, the first graduating class of the newly built Whitesboro High School in Marcy. In 1979, she joined in a relationship with Frank Suppa, a union that was blessed with four beautiful daughters. Although the marriage ended, their friendship and strong family bond never faded. It was their mutual love and special connection that kept their family together, never celebrating holidays or special events apart. Kathy was an extraordinary woman in every way. She was a wonderful role model as a full-time, at-home mom, teacher, and friend. Those days were spent playing with her girls, doing crafts and enjoying each other. From a very young age, she taught her girls that they were the most important things in her world and there wasn’t one moment when that feeling wavered. When her girls were grown, she re-entered the workforce and accepted a position with Digestive Disease Medicine, currently as Manager of Medical Records. There she made many wonderful friends and enjoyed telling her girls about the time spent with them. Kathy was a true animal lover and had the purest and kindest heart. This often meant saving a broken bird, and even rescuing pests her neighbors had tried to trap. She adored her cats and we know Felix is by her side in Heaven. A happy, energetic person, Kathy took on every endeavor wholeheartedly, from cooking and baking to loving the outdoors and landscaping. If she was going to do something, she was going to do it with all of her heart and effort. She found the joy and beauty in everything. She taught her girls to love nature, simple moments spent together, and jumping in rain puddles. Her girls knew that no matter what she was doing there was probably music playing. Kathy made sure her girls shared her love of music. Memories of dancing around the kitchen with their mom will never fade. Kathy enjoyed concerts and sharing new music with her family and friends. Kathy loved to tell her girls about her day and her life, often telling the same story over and over! Some of her favorite stories were about a once-in-a-lifetime trip she took to Ireland with her sisters. Kathy enjoyed learning about and celebrating her Irish heritage. The relationship she had with her sisters was a cherished one and she felt very blessed by their bond. Kathy spent summers with her family at Hatch Lake in the Southern Tier, an unforgettable time for her, and for generations that followed. She often talked about being at camp with her mom and dad and the wonderful times they spent. The year Kathy’s mom passed, she received a tree from her children, and as a family, they planted the tree in her mom’s remembrance, touching upon the depth of her love. Kathy was spiritual and believed in God as a higher being and in signs of those who had gone before her. She often talked to her mom and took cardinals as a sign that she was close by. Of all of Kathy’s accomplishments she would tell you that the bond her daughters share is her great achievement. It is through the kindness, wisdom, and strength she instilled in them that will they get through this heartbreaking time. If her girls bond was her greatest achievement, her grandbabies (and grandbabies to come) were her greatest blessing. Her laughter, smile, and love of life will always surround them. She often said that these past few years had been the happiest of her life. Although far, far too short, her life was filled with love, blessing, wonderful times, and laughter. Kathy leaves the loves of her life, her daughters, Nicole Suppa and fiance Anthony Gerardo, Maria Suppa and Matthew Skinner, Francine and Ryan Phelan, and Angela Suppa and Brendan Lennon; and their father, Frank, with whom Kathy maintained a cherished relationship; her grandchildren, Claire Kathleen, and Anthony Rocco; twins Mary Louise and Anna Therese; and the anticipated birth of her daughter Francine’s firstborn, a son. She will also be missed by her sisters and brother-in-law, Linda and Larry Smith, and Sue Eaton. Always close to her heart was the memory of her brother, Lawrence “Larry” Holmes who preceded her in 2009. Her extended family includes her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and the many wonderful friends that blessed her life, especially Lisa Gorecki, her concert going companion. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The family will remain until all visitors have been seen. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the March of Dimes for Babies, 329 North Salina Street, Suite 304, Syracuse, NY, 13203, in lieu of flowers; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Kathleen’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place privately in Calvary Cemetery.
