Kathleen "Kathy" Samarco

Kathleen “Kathy” Samarco, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Home. Kathy was the daughter of the late Benjamin P. Samarco and Adeline (Scalise) Santucci. She graduated from TR Proctor High School. At one time Kathy held a position at Utica Office Supply Co., and was a nurse’s aide at the former Genesee and Broad Acres Nursing facilities. Kathy prided herself on being a dedicated, loyal, and devoted friend to the people with whom she shared her life. When you saw that smile on her face, you knew it was sincere and heartfelt. Kathy was also extremely fond of animals, and she was known for always taking care of whatever strays came her way. One of her favorite pastimes was doing word find puzzles. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Kathy is survived by her brother Frank and his wife, Patricia Samarco of Whitesboro, a brother August Santucci, Jr. of Syracuse; a sister-in-law Patricia (Samarco) Riendeau; a former sister-in-law and friend Marie Squillace. Also surviving are her nephews; Jim and his wife Francine Santucci, Frank Samarco, and Matt Santucci, as well as Matt’s mother Melony; a niece Anita Samarco; great nieces, great nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by her step-father August Santucci, Sr.; a sister Arlene Samarco; a brother Nicholas V. Samarco; a nephew Jimmy Samarco; the love of her life Anthony “Junior” Morrock; and her best friend Janet Johnson. Special thanks to her physician, Dr. Julie Betro-Shkane for her many years of care and concern; the staff of Senior Network Health, especially acknowledging Lynn Taranto, R.N. for her dedication and compassion; the staff of the 1st floor Progressive Care Unit at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center; as well as those in the Barton West unit at St. Luke’s Home; and the residents at Mt. Carmel Apartments who offered Kathy acts of kindness. It was through the friendship and genuine love of the staff of Eannace’s that kept Kathy feeling blessed and grateful. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-3 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Kathy’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will follow visitation at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
