June M. (Bertrand) Thompson

Mrs. June M. (Bertrand) Thompson, age 81, of Strawberry Hills, North Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2008 with her loving family by her side. Born in Clayton, NY on June 21, 1927, June was the daughter of the late George and Lena (DeRosia) Bertrand. She was raised and educated in Utica. On January 7, 1946 at Historic Old St. John’s Church, June wed Neil P. Thompson who passed away on February 17, 2007; they were true companions throughout their lives, and best of friends during their 61 years of marriage. The couple resided in Poland, NY for many years and in 1969 they relocated to Albany where June had a fulfilling career as a medical technician at St. Peter’s Hospital retiring in 1993. Shortly after, they returned to Utica to be closer to their family. June’s life took its meaning from her family. She was a caring and loving mom, and the blessing of her children and grandchildren filled her heart and soul as her life’s greatest accomplishment. Favored with a friendly personality, she was thoughtful, supportive, and eager to help people in any way she could. Family get-togethers and picnics were especially memorable, and much to June and Neil’s credit, the occasions were fun-filled and joyous. An active woman, June took advantage of warm weather activities: she enjoyed the camaraderie of camping, played golf with her husband (and was proud of her hole-in-one), traveled, and migrated as a snowbird to the warmer locales of Myrtle Beach. During her spare time she found pleasure in knitting. She also loved to play cards and was especially kind to anyone who would join her in a game. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. June is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cristol C. and Dennis J. Peppenelli of North Utica; her son and daughter-in-law, Cortland C. and Ginnie G. Thompson, of North Syracuse; her grandchildren, Travis and Brenda Tabor, Lance Tabor and Kim Cooper, and Ryan and Stacy Thompson; and her great-grandchildren, Kayla, Matthew; Nathan, and Megan. Survivors also include her brother, Richard Bertrand of Clayton, NY; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, including her sister-in-law, Rosamond Pflanz of Utica. June was also blessed with many friends throughout her life. She was predeceased by her brother and sisters-in-law, John and Blanche Bertrand, Virginia Bertrand; and her brother-in-law, Sherman Pflanz. The family offers a special thank you to the Masonic Care Community, especially the staff of the Saranac Unit, for offering care and kindness to June and her family. Visitation will be held Sunday (today) from 2:00-4:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. June’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 at the funeral home immediately upon the conclusion of visitation with the Rev. Anthony P. LaFache officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clayton, NY on Tuesday, July 1 at 11:30 a.m.
