June T. Abounader

UTICA – Ms. June T. Abounader, age 88, peacefully entered into rest and was reunited with her loved ones who had gone before her when she passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Born in Utica on May 23, 1936, June was the daughter of the late Shaheen and Alice (Moshaty) Abounader. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1954. She furthered her education through classes offered by the American Bankers Association at the Utica School of Commerce. Prior to her retirement, June was employed for over 40 years with the former Oneida National Bank where she forged many lifelong friendships. During her time there, she gained such a rapport with her customers that they would often ask for her by name. June was honored to assist customers of various walks of life including those whose primary language was not English. Known for her sweet and kind demeanor, June possessed a vibrant personality which drew people to her. Everyone enjoyed being around her and she was quite well loved too! She would often check in on those she cared for most, making sure no one ever went without anything they may need. June held close relationships with all her sisters, and they were the best of friends. She even talked to Juliann daily right up until the very end. Due to their closeness in age, she and her sisters Donna, and Juliann enjoyed memorable trips to New York City, Montreal, and Lake George together. There was truly nothing bad anyone could say about June. She was the best daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, friend, and neighbor one could ever ask for. In her earlier years, June participated in cross-country skiing and golfing. She was not the type of person to remain idle, and much preferred to be in the company of family and friends. She relished being a part of the America’s Greatest Heart Run and Walk and volunteering for the Boilermaker Road Race. She was also a proud member of the St. Theresa and St. Joseph Societies. June was a faithful member of St. Louis Gonzaga Church. She began singing in the church choir in her teenage years and went on to assist with the collections with her sisters, Norma, and Donna, for nearly 20 years. June held a close relationship with Father Boutros El Hachem with whom she enjoyed having a cup of tea and sharing conversation in their native tongue. June is survived by her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Juliann and Joseph Ferris. She cherished in her heart the memory of her siblings and their spouses who preceded her, Agnes and Michael Fondario, Norma and Louis Chanatry, and Donna Stamboly. She leaves behind her brother-in-law, Ronald Stamboly, Sr.; nieces and nephews, Michael Fondario, Jr., Christine Dobrzenski, Ronald, Jr. and Melissa Stamboly, Andrea and John Lamberton, Joseph A. Ferris III, Jennifer and Stanley, and Christopher and Ann Ferris; many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; special friends, Phil and Pat Talento; and her neighbors from Gibson Road who all looked out for one another, for which she was so thankful. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and Daughters for Hire, especially Tracy, for their tender care and compassion. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend June’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, 520 Rutger St., where her Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be offered by Father Boutros El Hachem. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in June’s honor may be made to St. Louis Gonzaga Church online at www. saintlouisgonzaga.org/giving or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital online at www.stjude.org/donate; envelopes will also be available at the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
