Julia L. "Julie" Flihan

Julia L. "Julie" Flihan, age 71, a lifelong resident of East Utica, passed into the arms of the Lord on the blessed day of Christmas, December 25, 2007, with the love and the support of her family. Born May 23, 1936, Julie was the daughter of the late Nasser J. and Wadeha (Hobaica) Flihan. She attended local schools, having graduated from St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School and Thomas R. Proctor High School, Class of 1953. Julie’s employment began at the East Utica Boys Club, later the Fort Schuyler Drug Co., Mohawk Valley Cash Register, and Café Caruso, where she retired in 2004. Throughout her years of employment, she befriended many people of all walks of life. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Linda Flihan and Joseph’s children, including Debra and Joseph of New Hartford, and Dr. Sheila Flihan of Albany; Ramah “Art” and Patricia Flihan of Utica and their children, James and Gina Flihan and their sons, James II, Freddy, and Brandon of Las Vegas; Dr. Donald A. and Peri Flihan and their daughter, Jenna Anne of Vernon; David and Denise Flihan and their children, Gabrielle and David II of Whitesboro. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Daniel A. Salvo and his children, Rosario “Russ” Salvo and his fiancè Kathy Gregory, and Russ’s son, Rosario II; and Daniel II and Lisa Salvo and Daniel’s daughters, Dana, Amanda, and Jennifer Salvo. Julie leaves a special lifelong friend Betty (Timpano) Arcuri, her treasured friend of many years, Sister Michaeleen Cabral, OSF, and numerous people who have shared the precious moments of life with her. Julie was predeceased by her beloved sister, Lamya Salvo and her sister-in-law, Judith Manion Flihan. She was also predeceased by two very special friends whom she never forgot, Tina Mannella and Sister John Olivia Carvalho, OSF. It is with truly grateful hearts and meaningful blessings that Julie's family wish to thank to following: Dr. Robert Burke, Sally O'Callaghan, NP, the incredible staff of 2 West of the Allen Calder Wing of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, the caregivers of the Regional Cancer Center and the Seigenthaler Center. A spirited and faithful woman, Julie was always honored to serve her parish and shared a great respect for the clergy, with special mention of Father John Rose, Father Luis Olguin, Father Joseph Salerno, Rev. Msgr. Ronald Bill and Sister Maureen Denn. The religious and members of this community have remembered Julie with such kind acts and many prayers, for which she was so grateful. In keeping with Julie's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Julie's life on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. It has been a wish of Julie's that her friends and loved ones please omit floral or culinary offerings, and may instead consider memorial donations in her name to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN, or The American Cancer Society; envelopes will be available at the service. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
