Mrs. Julia T. (Barile) Piccione

Mrs. Julia T. (Barile) Piccione, age 87, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Albany Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on August 1, 1927, Julia was the daughter of the late Serafino and Mary (Pacciarelli) Barile. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On November 5, 1949 she married her sweetheart, Jerry F. Piccione, Jr., and remained his sweetheart for 65 years. Their journey was made even more beloved by the blessing of their children. Before starting her family Julia worked at Woolworth’s. After her children had grown, she worked at various locations specializing in retail. Her lifetime commitment was being a full-time wife and mother, and later on, as a loving grandmother who was so very proud of her grandchildren’s accomplishments. A devoted matriarch, Julia was calm and quiet by nature, but equally resourceful and determined. She knew how to maintain her home, a place where loved ones gathered every Thursday for dinner, always welcomed by a warm heart. She cooked and baked up a banquet during the holidays, highlighted by her homemade pasta. Julia was a source of unconditional love, patience, devotion, and caring. She supported her loved ones through their life’s journey, offering her gentle guidance and advice. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was an avid reader. Julia was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Julia is survived by her husband, Jerry; her daughters and sons-in-law, Juliann Skinner of Ilion (Julia held close the memory of her son-in-law, Michael F. Skinner, who passed away on May 30, 2002), Kathryn and Peter Dellerba of Whitesboro, and Nancy and Patrick Clark of Marcy; her beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Giovanna Skinner of Ilion; Matthew Skinner of New York City, Bethany and Kevin Mucci of Penfield, NY, Peter Dellerba and Danielle Fiorentino of Albany, and Laura Clark of Marcy; her adored great-grandchildren, Luca and Julia Skinner; and her sister, Lenora Pendasulo. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Florence Piccione, and Elizabeth Barile. Her extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Jessica M. “Jessie” and Stanley Parkola, Mary G. DeMetri, Mathew J. Barile, and Paul Pendasulo; her in-laws, Carmen P. Piccione, Carmella “Millie” and Salvatore Sardina, Lucy A. and John Pedone and Anthony L. Piccione. The family would like to thank Dr. John Taggert, Dr. Yaron Sternbach, and Dr. Chin-Chin Yeh, of the Albany Medical Center along with a special acknowledgement of the nurses and staff of the Albany Medical Center/Vascular Intensive Care Unit (VICU) for the comprehensive and compassionate care rendered to Julia during her stay. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Julia’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday morning at 11:00 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Tom Honold. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dunham Public Library in Whitesboro, NY; envelopes will be available at the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
