Julia C. "Judy" (Homer) Malara

Mrs. Julia C. “Judy” (Homer) Malara, age 85, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Heritage Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on June 18, 1927, Julia was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Antoinette (Gutt) Homer. She attended local schools. On November 7, 1948 she married Volo A. Malara with whom she shared a loving and successful union of over 48 years until his passing on May 29, 1997. Judy enjoyed her work as matriarch and homemaker, and dedicated herself to caring for her family and raising her children. A very giving and generous woman by nature, her home was always open to family and friends. She was a member of the Disabled Veterans of America (DAV), and in her later years, Judy and Volo were active in the North Utica Senior Center where they enjoyed social activities and trips. She was very proud of her involvement with the DAV Auxiliary and being elected an officer, serving her term with great cause. She was faithful to her Catholic beliefs and St. Peter’s Church in North Utica was her home parish. Judy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence “Larry” and Deborah Malara of SC; her grandchildren, Volo A. and Stephanie Malara of Rochester, Lawrence, Jr. and Chelby Malara of OH, Annie Malara, and Colleen Tiffany, both of Rochester, and Sean Tiffany of OH; and her great-grandchildren, Kristiana Malara, Landen Malara, Owen Malara, and Dominick Griffith. In addition, she leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased by her sisters, Bernice Vivino, Jean Fanelli-Tedesco, and Stella Gnatek ; her brothers and sister-in-law, Michael P. and Luella Homer, John Homer, Peter Homer, Ben Homer, Walter Homer, and Frank E. Homer; and her in-laws, Raymond Malara, David A. Malara Sr., and Patsy Jr. and Winifred Malara. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Judy’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Peter’s Church in North Utica where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. David Orzel. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
