Joseph S. Moracco

Mr. Joseph S. Moracco, age 88, a native Utican, and currently a resident of San Rafael, California, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at the Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, California. Born in Utica on October 8, 1918, Joe was the son of the late Francesco “Frank” and Frances (Amelio) Muraca. He was raised and educated locally, and graduated from Utica Free Academy with the class of 1937. It was in Utica, on November 24, 1945 he married the former Helen Lombardo, with whom he shared 37 years until her passing on September 7, 1983. The couple enjoyed a life of reciprocal love and admiration. Joe’s working life began in the Publication Department of the Griffiss Air Force Base where he worked for over 10 years. He was subsequently employed for 15 years with the New York State Department of Transportation, the last 4 years as a heavy equipment operator, a position from which he retired in 1981. As a loving individual, Joe prioritized his life around his family. He enjoyed his role as husband and father, and was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the prime age of 65, Joe took up the sport of golf, and became quite avid and proficient on the area courses. He also enjoyed bowling. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Joe is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph S., Jr. and Patti Moracco of San Rafael, CA, and Ronald F. and Mary Ann Moracco of Henderson, NV; his grandchildren, Joseph Moracco of LasVegas, NV, Robert and Katie Moracco of CA, and Daniella Moracco of LasVegas, NV; and his great-grandchildren, Samantha, and Reese Moracco. Also surviving are his brother, Frank “Junior” Moracco of Frankfort; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, especially acknowledging Marie and Anthony Cucinotta; and his in-laws, Carmen and Connie Lombardo of Utica, and Ann Moracco of Clinton. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister-in-law, Angelo “Morgan” Moracco, and Sam and Margaret Moracco, and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmella and Joseph Vendetti, Theresa and John Filipelli, Mary Cipriano, Tomasina “Bessie” and Frank T. Notaro, and Clementine “Clem” Grace and Peter A. DeFiore; and his sister-in-law, Molly Moracco. Visitation will be held Tuesday (today) from 5-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Joe’s funeral will commence on Wednesday at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish at Mt. Carmel Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
