Joseph F. Pellegrino

Mr. Joseph F. Pellegrino, a resident of Heron House of Indian Rocks, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in Largo, Florida. He was born in Utica on October 5, 1921, the youngest child of Victoria and Cosmo Pellegrino of Blandina Street. His sisters and brothers, Catherine, Santina, Dominick, Anthony, John, and Frank will be welcoming him to God’s Kingdom. Joseph was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School; he was proud to be a graduate of Cornell University. He was a chemistry professor at Alfred University and taught science for many years at T. R. Proctor High School. Joe had a zest for life and loved his family. In his later years, he took delight in his astute poker skills and was “banned” from many assisted living games. On any given morning, Joe could be seen driving up and down East Bay Drive on his three-wheeler, which he claimed was the Cadillac of bikes. Joe made friends wherever he went and he had a great sense of humor. Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose (Cardone) Pellegrino; and his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Sakon of Avon, CT, Rosanne and Dennis Hart of New Hartford, and MaryJo and Robert Goodman of Largo, FL. He delighted in his four grandchildren, John J. Sakon, Alexander X. Hart, Tracy Sakon, and Andrew L. Goodman. Always close to his heart was the memory of his grandchildren who predeceased him, Victoria Sakon, Trevor Hart, and Sara Goodman. Survivors also include his nephews, Donald Pellegrino of Clearwater, FL, Anthony Pellegrino, Jr. of New Hartford, and Ray Saraceno of Utica; his nieces, Marie Columbo of Seattle, WA, Bonnie Walsh of Whitesboro, and Phyllis Saraceno of New Hartford; his sister-in-law, Mary Frances Cardone of New Hartford; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Frank DiBerardino of Rome, NY. A memorial service in Joe’s honor will be held at the Reese Funeral Home, 6767 Seminole Blvd. N., Seminole, FL, on Wednesday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will also be held in Utica at the convenience of his family. Contributions can be made in his name to the Trevor R. Hart Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 477, Utica, NY 13502. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
