Mr. Joseph Charles Clerrico

Mr. Joseph Charles Clerrico, age 80, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Masonic Care Community of NY with his devoted family by his side. Born in Utica on May 12, 1934, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Amelia “Joan” (Kanches) Clerrico. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Utica Free Academy/Class of 1952. A veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served his country during the Korean War, from 1953-1955. On July 6, 1957 he married the former Josephine E. Scavo with whom he shared 57 years in a loving marriage. At one time, Joe was employed by the General Electric Company where he worked as a technician for a period of 30 years. He was also involved in a partnership in the operation of J & J TV Service located on the corner of Albany Street and Kossuth Avenue. Joe enjoyed golfing and bowling, and he also loved to fish. He practiced his Catholic faith at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Joe is survived by his wife, Josephine; his daughters and son-in-law, Regina Denny and Michael Matthei of Utica, and Joanne M. and Art Cacciotti of Tennessee; his grandchildren, Rachel Cicigline and Eric Greppo, Cari “Cookie” Denny and Patrick Burroughs; Aldo and Stacy Cacciotti, Paul, US Army, and Jodi Cacciotti, Angelo and Allison Cacciotti, and Joey and Kristen Cacciotti; and his great-grandchildren, Skylar, and Gavin Cacciotti; Mya, Sienna, and Cole Cacciotti; Anjalie, and Gennaro Cacciotti; and Joseph, and Anthony Cacciotti. He will also be missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann “Macc” and Michael Graham of Utica; his brother, Albert Clerrico of RI; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Carol R. DePalma, and Dominick T. and Rita Scavo; and his special friends, Shirley and Richard Hartman. Joe also loved his canine companions, Ginger, Pompey, and Fiona. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Rita (Laribee) and Vincent Sarnacki; his brother, Albert Joseph Clerrico who was killed in action in World War II; his grandparents, Pasquale and Philomena Clerrico; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rose and Dominick Scavo; and his brother-in-law, Joseph DePalma. The family extends their appreciation to the entire staff of the Masonic Care Community of NY, especially acknowledging the nurses and staff of the Saratoga Neighborhood for the loving care they rendered to Joe. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joseph’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday morning at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta with Military Honors conferred. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. By family request, please omit floral offerings.
