Mr. Jose Luis "Cundo" Santos

UTICA – Mr. Jose Luis “Cundo” Santos, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, after courageously battling an illness. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on June 1, 1949, Jose was the son of the late Andrea Colon and Zeferino Santos. Jose spent the early years of his life in Puerto Rico where he was raised, educated, and started his family. In 1983 he moved to Utica with his family, a decision that marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life. A skilled mechanic, Jose was self-employed, earning the trust and respect of all who knew him through his dedication and reliability. His strong character, sometimes masked by a gruff exterior, concealed a heart that was always in the right place. His smile had the unique ability to warm any room, and his intuitive nature was often spot-on. A devoted father, he raised his children with a blend of firmness and love, ensuring they grew up with the values of respect and care. He enjoyed raising animals, especially his chickens. Jose also made time for all family events, including fishing, baseball, and church gatherings. His Christian faith was of great importance to him. Jose is survived by his loving companion, Carmen Montalvo; and his cherished children and their loves, Luis Santos and Vanessa, Mayra Santos and Calvin, Sonia Garcia and Luis “Kike”, Madeline Santos, Juan Carlos Santos, Jacqueline Santos and Juan, and Hayle Santos. He also leaves his memory to his grandchildren, Ricky, Luis Jr., Martika, Tony, Claritza; Amanda, Calvin, Juan; Zania, Ryan, Jordan; Yesenia, Yamil, Yahelis; John Carlos; Jose, Able, Natalia, and Leilani; and many great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Jose Roman, and Gladys and Dionicio Roman; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Jose was predeceased by his brother, Reynaldo Santos; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Maria B. and Gregory Roman, and Maria A. and Fidel Sanchez. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street, corner of Hammond Ave. Jose’s funeral service and Celebration Life will commence at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
