Mr. Jose C. "Nego" Colon

Mr. Jose C. “Nego” Colon, age 36, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Utica on October 8, 1977, Jose was the son of Kathleen (Velez) Colon and the late Jose Juan “Chi-qua” Colon. Jose was raised and educated locally. He was employed at one time by the East Coast Olive Oil Company as a Supervisor. More recently, he was under the employ of Walmart at its Distribution Center. A loving, caring, and friendly man, Nego always put the needs of others before his own. He was a dedicated father who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He was a big Teddy Bear, good-natured, always smiling, and putting people at ease. He loved the outdoors, especially when he was fishing. He played football during his youth where he was affectionately given the nickname “Mad Dog”. Nego is survived by his daughter, Aaliyah Colon and his son, Armin Colon, who were truly the adoration of his life and whom he lovingly raised and nurtured; his mother, Kathleen (Velez) Colon; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Maria and John Dote of Whitesboro, Dora Colon and Danny Santiago, and Mariah Colon, all of Utica; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jose (Papo) and Sarah Colon, Jose (Tito) and Lisa Colon, and Jose (Tony) Colon, all of Utica, and Jose (Chi-jui) and Neisha Colon of Ithaca. He will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Pepin Colon; his uncle, William Colon; and his aunt, Josephine Colon. The family extends sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for all the compassionate care rendered to Jose. They also wish to acknowledge the love and devotion offered by his Uncle, Luiscito Colon. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Jose’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
