Joline M. (Nickerson) Dye

SCHUYLER - Joline M. (Nickerson) Dye, age 83, passed away after lengthy illnesses on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 in the comfort and dignity of her home, as she had wished. Born in Richfield Springs on November 17, 1937, Joline was the daughter of the late Charles and Veronica (Manny) Nickerson. She attended school in the Richfield Springs District and was a graduate of Ilion High School. Joline’s first marriage was to Vaughn Crewell, and they were gifted with two children. At one time she was married to Edward A. Dye, and to that union came the blessing of two daughters. She and Ed remained friends and together they did their best to blend their two families together. Nursing was Joline’s natural calling in life. She was a Certified New York State CNA and held positions at Broadacres and the Masonic Home. In her later years she did private duty care. She was deeply devoted to the patients she tended to, so much so that they became family to Joline and her own family. In turn, it inspired her daughters to be non-judgmental, aware of people’s needs, and to carry out your duties with respect. Her legacy resides in the lives she loved and the sensitive way her love was displayed. She had all the prerequisites to be a compassionate practical nurse. She also was a natural nurturer as a mother, holding her children close to her heart and honoring one another. She was strong, determined, caring, and an amazing mom, grandma, and great-grandma! She loved to read mysteries and crime novels to which she intuitively knew the dramatic end. In the kitchen, she never followed a recipe when she prepared abundant meals, and the neighborhood was well-fed! One of her primary pastimes was gardening, vegetables and floral, alike, and she taught her time-tested techniques to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were in awe by what she taught them that by planting a simple seed, what could amazingly grow from it. Joline saw so many changes in her life, and she worked hard to accept these natural nuances we must all adjust to, or give in to, over time. She allowed everyone to experience life at their own pace, for their own purpose, but she never hesitated to share her opinions. She was the disciplinarian, but she was fair. She was a wonderful mom, and although she imparted her wisdom, her greatest gift was her unequivocal acceptance and availability under any conditions. She carried her responsibilities gracefully as she alternately gave way to good times, parties, barbecues, and hospitality that came so easily to her. She loved the holidays, family gatherings, decorating the Christmas tree, and just being together. Her festive meals were her greatest joy and source of memories made over decades. Joline’s spontaneous cross-country journeys via the northern and southern routes were the best! Adventure was inherent to Joline, and she enjoyed it. As a grandma, she was a great mentor and supporter. Although a traditionalist, she varied her approach to align with the individual situation. She wasn’t your average grandma! She socialized well with the kids’ friends and was known as “the community grandma”. She was thrilled by her great-grandchildren who called her “GiGi”, and she displayed her spunk to the very end. Joline guided and taught her children to receive their Holy Sacraments, just as she prayed for a faith-filled life, and the Lord guided her. He lived in her heart, and in the end, she received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick prior to her passing, and she was at peace, and ready to go home. Joline is survived by her children and their loves, Frank and Patty Crewell, Debbie and Mike Vosberg, Annie Terhune with whom she shared a home and the loving memory of Annie’s companion, Tyrone Goldman, who passed in December of 2020, and the memory of her daughter Michelle M. (Dye) Snyder who preceded her on July 10, 2017; her grandchildren, Frank Crewell, Michael Crewell, Tiffany Martin; Michael (Lisa) Vosberg, Matthew (Jessica) Vosberg; Joseph Dye, Cassie Snyder and Steven Mullie, Phil and Kara Snyder, Bri Snyder, and Richie Snyder; great-grandchildren, including Tony, Kat, El, Gugu, Finley, and Lukey; and her sister, Veronica “Ronnie” Wood. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She also shared a motherly relationship with Karen and John. For over 60 years, she was best of friends with the late Sarah E. Yeomans who was family to her and her children. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Diane and James Dousharm; and brother, Donald Gregory. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Gathering to be held Sunday, June 6, 2021 from 2-4 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Joline’s Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will follow. COVID protocols will be followed at the funeral home.
