John T. Wyborski, Sr.

Mr. John Thomas Wyborski, Sr., age 60, of Frankfort, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. Born in Utica on November 23, 1948, John was the son of the late Valentine T. and Margaret S. (Kaczmarek) Wyborski. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Utica Free Academy with the Class of 1967. A proud veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Army. At one time, he was married to the current Dorothy Acquaviva. John worked as a New York State Corrections Officer at the Marcy State Correctional Facility for 17 years, retiring in 2006. A hard worker, he was deeply committed to his professional life. At home, he was dedicated to his children, grandchildren, and family, and thought of them as the center of his life. When his children were young, he would take them to the beach, welcoming their friends to go along with them. Another source of his happiness was celebrating traditional holidays with his loved ones. He was an avid golfer and a loyal and active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Brian Yoshimoto of VA; his son, John T. Wyborski, Jr. and Cathy Warren of Utica; and his granddaughter, Alexis LaBella. Survivors also include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Theodora “Theo” and Jim MacDonald, and Pauline and Richard Fairbrother, all of Utica; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Debbie Wyborski, and Edward and Kathy Wyborski, all of Utica; his longtime companion, Evie Kavanaugh; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, sister-in-law, Kathleen Wyborski-Smith; and his best friend, Peter Marriott. He was predeceased by his infant son, John David Wyborski; his brother, Michael H. Wyborski; and his sister, Monica Parker. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Dr. Robert Burke, and the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department for their continued efforts and compassion. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in John’s honor to the American Diabetes Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. John’s funeral service will commence on Friday afternoon at 12:00 from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with military honors. Committal will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
