John J. Zangrilli

John J. Zangrilli Utica Mr. John J. Zangrilli, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on January 1, 1918, John was the son of the late Luigi and Angela (Matrulli) Zangrilli. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. A proud veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in the European Theater of Operations. On April 14, 1941 he married the former Philomena Saggese who passed away on April 13, 1989. A well-suited couple, they shared 48 years in a relationship that was filled with much happiness and love. Until his retirement, John was the longtime owner and operator of the Minit Car Wash located on Holland Ave. in Utica. The blessing of a good family life, a hard work ethic, and the loyalty of many friendships made for a wonderful life. He was a man of integrity, a dependable person with a heart of gold. John enjoyed his morning gatherings with his buddies at McDonalds in Yorkville and his daily lunches with his ‘second son’, Danny LoConti. And then it was off to the golf course, which made for a perfect day! He was a member of the Cedar Lake Golf Club where he knew the fairways with precision. During his lifetime, John found pleasure in local sports, fishing, his Wednesday night golf league, and supporting the New York Yankees. He was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church. John is survived by his daughter, MaryLourdes Boden of Utica. Always close to his heart was the memory of his son, Louis Zangrilli, who preceded him in death. He also leaves his grandchildren, Erica Boden and her husband Anatoly Leshkevich, Kelly Boden; Jeannie and Rick Tittle, John and Winifred Zangrilli, Jimmy and Laura Zangrilli, as well as their mother, Judy; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Brandon; Morgan; James, and twins Ava and Andrew; and the anticipation of Erica’s first baby boy. Survivors also include his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Grace and Paul Guerra of Utica; his brother and sister-in-law, Anthony L. and Josephine Zangrilli of New Hartford; his beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Barbara Zangilli, Catherine Alsante, and Angelo and Louise Saggese. John was blessed with many wonderful and loyal friendships during his life. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Alfred E. Pardi; his brothers and sister-in-law, Raymond J., Sr. and Polly Zangrilli, and Albert A. Zangrilli; his in-laws, Frank “Chieko” and Victoria Saggese, Lula and Michael King, and Mary Saggese. He also fondly remembered the numerous friends who preceded him in passing. John was blessed with home health aides from One Caring Place, especially acknowledging Kelly and Traci. The family is grateful that they were the blessing of extended family. In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. For those wishing to do so, the family asks you to consider donations to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., in remembrance of the care offered to his late wife Philomena, as well as John during their time of need; envelopes will be available at the service. Interment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
