John F. "Jack" Ginnity

Mr. John F. “Jack” Ginnity, age 71, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Heritage Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on August 27, 1937, John was the son of the late Hubert and Blanche (Smith) Ginnity. He was raised and educated locally, but was proud of his Irish heritage. Jack served his country in the US Army. On August 8, 1964 he married the former Jo Giovampietro. Jack was employed as a postal clerk for several years aboard the New York Central Railroad, and later served in the same capacity at the Utica Post Office for 30 years. He enjoyed bowling and participated in several area leagues. He was also an avid New York Yankees fan. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose where he served as Governor and Treasurer, the Toastmasters, the Knights of Columbus, and the Utica Post #29. He was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church. John is survived by his wife, Jo; his son, John F. Ginnity, Jr. of Tampa, Florida; his grandchildren, Jordyn Ginnity, Savanah and Brandon Rodriguez, Jericho Ginnity, Jushuah Ginnity, and Sierah Ginnity; and his great-grandchildren, Siena and Camden Rodriguez. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, several sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law; and his cousins, Pauline and William Miller. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of the Heritage Healthcare Center, the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, and Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for all the care and attention shown to Jack and his family. The family also extends a heartfelt thank you to Rev. Mark Pasik, Rev. Lucian Urbaniak, Deacon Richard Prusko, the Wednesday Night Rosary Group, and the Franciscan Group for all their prayers and words of inspiration. Jo is thankful to her friends Kathleen Amrhein, Sue Cieri, and Socianna Merz for all their help during this difficult time. In keeping with Jack’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jack’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:00 at St. Mark’s Church on Keyes Rd. where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Waterville at the convenience of the family.
