John A. Constabile

Mr. John A. Constabile, age 85, of Utica, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on April 10, 1923, John was the son of the late Antonio and Elvira (Magliocco) Constabile. He was raised and educated locally. A member of the ‘greatest generation’ and a veteran of World War II, John was proud of his military service as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps serving his country from 1943-1946. On October 25, 1952 he married the former Alice M. Caouette with whom he shared 41 years in a loving and blessed union prior to her passing on October 9, 1993. Prior to working at the Rome Air Base as a supply inspector for over 41 years, John worked with various area construction companies including Midstate Builders, and Richards Construction Co. He retired from the base in 1981. A loving, gentle, and humorous man, John lived for his family and his grandchildren who brought him much joy. During his spare time he tended to his garden, enjoyed a good game of golf, and rooted for the N.Y. Yankees. He was a member of the American Legion Fort Schuyler Post #1290, and at one time, belonged to the Civilian Conservation Corps Co. 1238, in Deansboro, NY. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. John is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Nadean and James Gleitsmann of Utica, and Catherine and Michael Colosimo, Jr. of Frankfort; his sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Janet Constabile of Clinton, and Joseph M. and Lynn Constabile of Prescott, AZ; and his grandchildren, Christina Constabile of Clinton, Michael III and Adrian Colosimo of New Hartford, Vincent Colosimo of Frankfort, and Brian Gleitsmann, Katie Gleitsmann, and Amy Gleitsmann, all of Utica. Survivors also include his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Matt Militano of Utica; and his brother, Frank “Hank” Constabile of Utica, with whom he shared a very close relationship. In addition, he leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Marietta "Marty" Constabile, Marie Constabile, Anthony Ruggiero, Bonnie Constabile, and Ruth Caouette. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Victoria L. and Francis Caille, and her 2nd husband, Frederick “Mac” McCullouch; Pasquelina and Ralph Constabile, Josephine and Floyd Caouette, and Elizabeth Ruggiero; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph A. and Marie Constabile, Anthony R. Constabile, Julius A. Constabile, and Salvatore “Sam” and Ann Constabile; and his in-laws, Bertha Constabile, Clifford and Geraldine Caouette, Edmund and Jemel Caouette, George Caouette, Marshall Caouette, Katherine Mayhew Matthews and her husband, Bill; Shibley M., Sr. and Catherine Caouette, Perdella Spina, Nelson Caouette, and John Caouette; and nephews, Brandon Bombace, R.J. Constabile, and David Caouette. Visitation will be held Monday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. John’s funeral service will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
