Dr. John E. Romano

UTICA - Dr. John E. Romano, age 91, passed from this world unexpectedly on Friday, June 8, 2018 at his home with his loving wife Beatrice and his son Paul by his side. John was a humble man who recognized the many blessings God bestowed upon him throughout his life. He was a loving and faithful husband, supportive and caring father and grandfather, and an honest and honorable man who cherished his family and the role he played in each of our lives. His steadfast and lifelong journey to be the man God intended him to be will remain an example of a life well lived to all of us who knew and loved him. John was born in his family’s home at 1000 Rudolph Place on December 31, 1926, one of ten children of the late Pasquale and Giovanna (Gentile) Romano. Upon his graduation from Proctor High School in 1944, John attended Hamilton College where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in the Spring of 1949. His college education was interrupted for two years, during which he served honorably in World War II as an Interpreter in our nation’s Army under Brigadier General John Lee, while stationed in Italy. In 1954 he received his degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry. Soon after, he opened his office at 250 Genesee Street where he practiced General Dentistry for 43 years. In June of 1957 John married the love of his life, Beatrice Vona, and made their home in East Utica where they raised four children and lived happily for 61 years. Among the many lessons our dad consistently demonstrated in our time together was this: live simply, honestly, and humbly so you may seek, learn and live God’s purpose for your lives. He practiced his Catholic creed as a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Faithful servant of God, loving husband, and the epitome of what it means to be a family man, you will be missed until we meet and live again in eternity. John is survived by his wife Beatrice and their four children and son-in-law: John E. Romano, Jr. of Saratoga Springs, Elaine Trevisani and her husband David of New Hartford, Paul Romano of Johns Creek, Georgia and Jennifer Romano of Utica and her lifelong friend, Les Paulson of Frankfort. John is also survived by ten grandchildren each of whom he loved dearly, Jaclyn, and Marcus Romano, (the memory of his beloved grandson Lucas who preceded him); Lauren Palmieri, Michael Palmieri and his wife Annie, and Mia Trevisani; Nicholas, Alec, and Isabella Romano; and Matthew, and Justin Romano. Also surviving John are his nieces Diane Kirkland and Judy Spada of Utica, and his in-laws, Marlene and John DeIorio, Pamela Vona, and Elena Santos. He is predeceased by his brothers Joe, Edmund, Pasquale, and Anthony; and his sisters and brother-in-law Anna, Evelyn, Genevieve, Gloria and Beatrice and Frank Spada, and his in-laws Beverly and Fernando Alteri, and Marsette Vona. We take comfort knowing you are reunited with our dearly departed, in the house of our Father in Heaven. In his final months dad received the compassionate care he well deserved from his family, with around the clock attention given by our mom and sister Jennifer. In addition, the Romano family wish to express our deep thanks and sincere gratitude to Dr. Jerry Sloan, Dr. Thomas Mathew and Dr. Thomas John who provided wonderful medical care for our dad over the past many years. We also give thanks to the nurses from the Visiting Nurse Association, who provided additional comfort for our dad in the last few weeks of his life. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. John’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski with Military Honors conferred by the United States Army. The family will process to St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clinton for Committal services and interment.
