Mr. John J. Raab

UTICA – Mr. John J. Raab, age 73, went home to be with his loving wife in heaven on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Born in Utica on January 30, 1952, John was the son of the late Donald and Helen (Daniels) Raab. He was raised and educated in Utica. Later in life, he attended Mohawk Valley Community College, where he was proud to earn an associate degree in accounting. In his professional life, John worked as a baker at various local bakeries throughout the years. John wed the former Sally J. Goodhines on September 2, 1978. Their union, marked by their deep devotion to one another, was blessed for 46 years, prior to Sally’s passing on February 18, 2025. John was fully committed to the love he held for his family; they were everything to him. As a talented cook, John enjoyed making delicious meals for his family. He possessed a great sense of humor, coupled with a sarcastic, dry wit. An outdoorsman at heart, John loved casting his line into the water, sitting by the dock, and enjoying nature during his countless fishing and camping excursions with his family. From a very young age, he developed a love for the Buffalo Bills and remained a loyal fan throughout his life. He also enjoyed the excitement of watching game shows on TV with his wife, such as “The Price is Right,” and “Let’s Make a Deal.” Visitors could often find him relaxing and listening to his favorite musical artists, especially Eric Clapton and Billy Joel. John is survived by his two daughters, Melissa Raab, and Kristen Raab and her companion Fuad Becic; grandson, James Ruiz; and his brother Donald Raab. He held close to his heart the memory of his brother, James Raab, who preceded him. He further leaves his memory to his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, especially acknowledging Amy Jennings, who offered her loving care and concern to both John and Sally; and in-laws, Joyce and Robert Jennings, Ellen Saramaha, Kenneth “Kenny” and Susan Goodhines, and Philip Goodhines. He was additionally predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond H. and Ethel A. (Tuffey) Goodhines; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Russell E. Pettys, Phyllis L. Schmidt, Claire M. Goodhines, and Barbara A. Goodhines. In honoring John’s wishes, there will be no public services. His family will honor and commemorate his life privately. Arrangements are entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
