John R. Cozza

Mr. John R. Cozza, age 56, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Utica on September 1, 1954, John was the son of the late Paul and Rose (Rintrona) Cozza. As a young boy, John was involved with the family business, Rintrona’s Bakery, a commitment he upheld until several years ago. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On May 20, 2000 he was joined in marriage to Dr. Constance A. Murine; the couple shared a loving and devoted union. He was the owner and operator of Discount Floor on Bleecker Street for many years. For relaxation and enjoyment, John loved to travel, both on land and on the waterways aboard his boat, ‘Danielle’s Delight’. In his earlier years, he played softball for Sansone Productions, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. John is survived by his wife, Constance; his daughter, Danielle L. Cozza and her fiance A.J. Whiteley of Utica; his stepchildren, Ronald Paul & Anne Colangelo, Angelo Colangelo and Joseph Colangelo; his grandchildren, Albert Whiteley V and Lincoln Colangelo; his sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Martin L. Maio; his brothers and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sharon Cozza, and Louis Cozza; mother-in-law, Santina Murine; in-laws, nieces, cousins; and friends, especially Theresa and Jim Lasher, and members of the Nappi family. The family expresses appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the compassion and care they rendered to John. In keeping with John’s wishes there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John’s Memorial Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache on Thursday morning at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of floral offerings, expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the Gioia Murine Education Fund at M.V.C.C.; envelopes will be available at the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
