Mr. John Lawrence Calenzo

BALDWINSVILLE/UTICA - Mr. John Lawrence Calenzo, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Syracuse Veterans Administration Medical Center. Born in Utica on August 11, 1927, John was the son of the late Michael D. and Rose M. (Lupino) Calenzo. He was raised and educated locally. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he honorably served his country from 1945-1946. On September 17, 1948 he married the former Paulina (Sercer) Calenzo with whom he shared 30 years in a mutually supportive union that focused on raising their family. Paulina passed away on June 13, 1979. At one time, John was employed with Utica Veal and Fanelli’s Express as a truck driver for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post #229 and was proud of his affiliation with the Teamsters Union. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Paulina and Danny Macko of Baldwinsville NY; and his son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Cheryl Calenzo of Whitesboro. He held close to his heart the memory of his son, Anthony G. Calenzo, who passed away on May 8, 2016. He also leaves his grandchildren, Diana, Christia, and Mary Rose Calenzo; Kelly Calenzo, and John P. Calenzo; Alexandria Calenzo, and Madison Calenzo; the memory of his infant granddaughter, Rena Ann Calenzo who preceded him; his many great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie A. and Richard J. “Dick” Camarra of St. Pete Beach FL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony J. and Patricia “Pat” Calenzo of Utica and Michael J. “Mike” and Margaret Calenzo of Florida and Utica; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and daughter-in-law, Michelle Calenzo. He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew P. Calenzo; sister, Angela Marie Calenzo; in-laws, Frances and Fred Shook; and daughter-in-law, Terry Lee Calenzo. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. John’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
