Mr. John J. "Abe" Abramowicz

Mr. John J. “Abe” Abramowicz, age 75, of North Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 11, 2014 in the privacy of his home. Born in Utica on June 18, 1939, John was the son of the late William and Agnes (Krol) Abramowicz. He was raised and educated locally. In April of 1960 he married the former Mary Ann Lupia; the two shared a 34 year union until the time of her passing on December 6, 1994. For many years, Abe worked in the Maintenance Department at the Adirondack Gateway Best Western Inn on Genesee Street. Abe was a peaceful, patient man, and his family was his priority in life and the heart of his happiness. He also had an engaging sense of humor that warmed the hearts of those who knew him. During his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing at the Black River and West Canada Creek, along with his other favorite spots in the Adirondacks. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and he was of the Catholic faith. Abe is survived by his sons, John P. “Abe” Abramowicz of Utica, and Henry A. Abramowicz of SC; his grandchildren, Anthony Abramowicz, Brian Abramowicz, Savana Abramowicz, Jessika Hogan; and the memories of his late grandson, Stewart Abramowicz, and late great-grandson Thomas Crooker; which he held close to his heart. He also leaves his great-grandchild, D’Shauna Boles and her mother Rebecca Boles Sykes; his sister, Cecilia Chrostowski of OH; and his brother, Stanley Abramowicz of NH; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Lupia-Rush of Phoenixville, PA, and Katherine “Kay” Lupia of Rochester. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry Abramowicz/PFC, who passed away during World War II; his sister, Virginia Kozak; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Philip J. and Mary Lupia; and his brother-in-law, Dominick Lupia. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. John’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home immediately upon the conclusion of visitation with Rev. James Cesta officiating the ceremony. Interment will follow graveside in St. Agnes Cemetery.
